Hey there , looks like the wind will be up friday ?? anyone heading out around darwin , im in town for work and may get a chance to kite , would the best option in an easterly be at lee point ? Any info would be stoked ??

... hey Grizwold,

check airport for wind direction via Bom website or weatherzone, past 24hours then head to appropriate beach which can be:

- Buffalo Creek (which is still part of Lee Point), good for SE through to NE but we tend to head to Lee Point when NE, best on a E to ESE. Drive down to lee point, turn right towards buff creek and stop at sharp corner in road at carpark.

- Lee Point best on a NE to N especially on a high tide as current goes upwind (watch out for rocks though).

- Casuarina Beach (surfclub) good for N to SW but unlikely to westerlies this time of year.

- Rapic Creek is best on a NW to W but many rocks and dangerous but unlikely this time of year, better for monsoon wet season.

Probably see you Buff Creek with the forecast coming,

Im heading up there next week for about a week. Hopefully get a kite in. Only took a 10m last time, got the 12 this time so fingers crossed. Hopefully i can out run the crocks.

Had no idea darwin had such consistant winds, braught my kite but wasnt expecting too much, more of a just incase thing. It gasnt stopped blowing all week. Dunno if i fluked it or what? Awesome couple of arvos at lee point. Bit overpowered today at buffalo creek, ill have to bring the 9 aswell next time. Awesome bunch of locals too. Thanks guys.

lee point, buff creek,casurina and rapid creek mostly but u do get a few in other spots

Pretty normal this time of year, should stay like this til the end of August then the dreaded doldrums before the monsoon season!

Hi,
I met some guys the other day down at Nightcliff. Thanks for the advice. Also, I assume it's ok, but let me know if any thumb problems. I wasn't aware the water has such potential for infection also. That's a local thing - Rookie error.

I'm getting myself more setup for Darwin light winds and have a Liquid Force 16m, which I'm told should pull all 82kg of me. A few questions I should've asked:
How do you typically launch? I'm not that experienced with self launch and land and not keen on doing so with a kite I'm not used to which I haven't trimmed or setup before.

I'm going to try get out on my Wainman Joke 142 x 44. The dimensions seem ok, but I get the feeling the rocker may struggle in the lower winds. What's your typical wind cut off for getting out? I'll grab a lightwind board when I've got time, but I'd like to get out asap.

Also, anyone against an autonomous camera drone being out there? Don't want to upset anyone.

Hopefully catch you on the water sometime soon.

Infections???

There is light wind kites and then there is Darwin light wind kites, the wind up here is very thin. Dyno and zephyr are king on the light wind days.
We self launch and land almost every session. Saying that most of the time if the wind is up there will be a kiter there more than happy to launch and land you, just ask.

The drone subject has come up a couple times over beers, Im happy as long as you can replace my vegas once your drone rips it to shreds.

Fingers crossed the wind picks up..

Check out Casuranina beach, especially low tides, miles of room to learn how to self launch. We'll be more than happy to show you a few tips on self launching and landing, really easy with all the room we have.

Would love to see how the drone thingy works.
