Hi,

I'm coming from London to Sydney this week (arrive Friday). I'm bringing my kitesurfing gear and I was wondering whether I need to bring my big beefy fully-taped wetsuit or if I can get away with my thin shorty wetsuit?

Also -- where's the best place to set up in Botany Bay? Do I need to be concerned with the tides there or not?

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff

Welcome to Sydney in advance. Weathers still pretty warm. You'll only need a spring suit (short arms and legs) this time of year. Water temp is around 18 - 20 deg C.

Check out the locations guide at NSWKBA
http://www.nswkba.com.au/locations/sydney for places to kite

Since the airport extends into Botany Bay we ask that people do not kite north of the big hotel (Novotel) situated at Bay St, Brighton. Anywher south of this is fine.

Popular flat water spots include the beach 200m south of President Ave on the Grand Parade known as 1st Groyne, and Dolls Point which is best kited when the tide and wind are opposite to each other. Anywhere in between fine to kite as well. Local shop is Kitepower www.kitepower.com.au/ just near Dolls Point for more detailed info.

Sydney sucks for kiting. You're much better off going to the fishmarkets and smashing a dozen oysters into your face, along with some super fresh calamari and Aioli. Then go up to the Northern beaches surfing, the surf there is great.

You'll be right in boardies and rashie till end April then you could get away with shortie wetsiut all through winter but there are cold days in the winter where i'd recommend a full wetsuit.
