They call it the "near 30's" crisis: I just decided I would drive up the coast from Sydney, all the way to north Queensland, most likely by mid-april (before it gets too cold, really...)....
I want to try as many kitesurfing spots as possible (according that there's wind (yeah right...)) and play tourist if the wind lets me down (still a koala addict so it should do too).
So Thats where I need advises: I've got a fairly good idea of where I will stop (says the girl who NEVER drove a car in Australia (funny isn't it...)), but any tip is more than welcome! Advises towards places to stay during my journey would be nice too.
Also, wanted to know if someone's nut enough to join me (more fun with pals), and also, out of the pretty cool crew we were last winter up there, who's going back? (want a ride? (with the girl who never drove a car in Australia....)).
Backpackers are no option to me (cant cope with them any more...): is there anyone out here willing to share an apartment up north for couple of months (Port douglas or around, unless someone's got a better idea!)?
Thanks heaps to anyone coming up with advises...

thanks heaps for offering, will do, looking forward to it! ;-)
I will be leaving Sydney around mid-april and head towards the gold coast. I have been doing searches and I was wondering whether I should stay in Mackay through the winter rather than Port Douglas. I was told it's quite a nice spot and that the wind's wicked but I have no idea what's the right time of the year to kite there. Could anyone bring me some infos?
Cheers

We went to Mackay and Alva Beach (near Ayr, which is near Townsville) at the end of May last year and it was fantastic. We had wind for the whole 2 weeks - everyday the SE trades came in. We spent 3 days at Alva beach and the wind seemed to be a little stronger there - more like 20-25kts on a huge lagoon thing. Mackay was the best place though even if a little bit lighter wind, mainly because it was not as gusty, we just camped in a camping ground and drove down to the main (?) spot at the end of the dirt road that heads of from the marina. I think if I went again I'd spend more time at Alva beach but still go to Mackay for most of it.
