Not trying to start any rumours here, but my non-kiting boss said today that he saw a new sign at Wellington Point on the weekend saying 'No kites allowed past this point'... and it was on the road as you come down into the park area!

He also said there was wind, there were sailboarders out, and there were no kites anywhere to be seen.

Can anyone confirm this?

i heard along the lines when our council tried to ban us (BASTARDS) that they can't actually force us off our beach. Muhahaha, plus i would be spews if i had to drive to go kiteboarding.

There's a sign there but it only refers to the reserve area.
All setup, packup, launching and landing is supposed to be done below the high water mark like on the beach or the sandbar only.

If there weren't any kiters out, there's always a good reason for it - those guys never miss a sesh when it's blowing...

Sign's been there as long as I can remember also... If you set up anywhere on the grassed area, children's beach, park area etc., and council catch you, it's like a $375 fine... The aim is to set up on the sand area, and on the beach below the high tide mark (seaweed line) etc. If you're fast enough setting up, and getting your kite out mate, you most likely won't get caught.... Anything higher than a 1.9m tide, you have 2 set up on teh grass or beach... it's just got to be done fast....

Sorry guys, should have made myself clearer. I *did* know about the high tide mark rule and the fines, I've tried to rig down there on a 1m wide strip of sand at high tide, no matter how I folded my kite it just wouldn't stay in that 1 meter they so generously allowed between king high and normal high tide.

Just goes to show that you shouldn't trust a non-kiter on these things, my boss was pretty adamant that it was a brand new sign. He reckons there was wind but that could have been like 5 knots. I've never seen a sign there, so I just started wondering...
