We spent 3 days there last week, kited at nearly every kitable beach from Lennox Heads Seven Miles Beach, Brunswick Heads, Suffolk Park, then back onto Byron. All great kiting spots, with miles of great sandy beach. Got to be careful at Byron though, tons of swimmers/surfers. Do not kite at main beach.

My top recommendation is Lennox, great local guys, surf club has cafe right on beach, opens every day. Showers & toilets at most spots.

Lennox is the go. You'll need a car. If the south easters are still pumping tallows should be a goer. (you can walk to tallows)
The main beach needs a NE wind which generally means a hot sunny day which definately means thousands and thousands of humans, surf schools, lifeguards. Pretty sure it's banned too.

I heard kiting has been banned in the Ballina shire, which includes Lennox head. Most people are heading up to Tallows or down to Evans Head to ride.

Byron is home for me. I just did a 2.5 year stint in WA and came back with a love for kite surfing. In Nov/Dec we were having heaps of northerlies so I decided to kite in town in the eastern corner of Main beach (up from clarks beach). Was fun and good direction to wave ride from. However I will not kite there again because of all the people swimming/surfing/walking. Was crazy. Landing my kite took about 10 people to clear enough room. Was way too hectic.
Around the headland at tallows to broken head is great and then again from 7 mile all the way to lennox. Very few surfers, heaps of beach and generally an inner and outer bank to wave ride on and works in NE and SE winds. You should have SE'ers by then. Avoid in town. If its not banned I am sure it will be really soon. They will try ban surfing in town one day!

There've been a few close calls with other beach users and kiters recently followed by articles in the local newspaper so kiting is under the microscope by the Council at the moment.

Make sure you don't kite at Clarkes Beach/Main Beach and the area where surfers congregate at Tallows and be sensitive to the potential of incidents.

Stay well clear of all other beach users.
