can anyone out there give some adivce on how to land jumps smoothly...? can get plenty of air but tend to land like a lead sinker. cant get any forward momentum to continue after the landing. is the key to sheet out slight just before landing and then sheet in when you hit the water or is it mainly to do with bringing the kite forward again at the right time? any adive would be greatly appreciated. ps l fly a bow

Release your edge slightly earlier so that you get some forward distance rather than just going straight up and down. Make sure that you dive your kite back into the power zone as you are landing (not too critical in stronger winds). When you land point your board down wind so that you plane a bit before setting your edge again.

i am having the same problem
i find i can't get the kite back into the power zone.. the kite is straight up when i am in the air, and when i turn the kite, i seem to send it too far over and miss the power zone completely .. do i need to be more aggressive with my kite turns ??

Nice one, if you cant land a jump kite loops should be the answer. especially if the the probelm comes from timing or kite control!

the extra power should make landing cleanly heaps easier.

sound advice to keep front foot up on landing though.

i suggest that if you are having trouble with your landings you should start by looking at your take off.

If you get a clen take off, edging hard, flying your kite back and timing your edge release with the kite lifting off the water. followed by smooth flying of the kite forward to remain at around 12 o'clock. And a smooth dive of the kite as you come in to land. You should find that you land most of your jumps cleanly.

I find that most, if not all, of the jumps that f#ck up, are a result of mis-timed takeoff. So long as you are diving the kite forward as you land that is.

my experience only so hope this helps.

I've found that when at the peak of your jump think about turning the kites LE into the direction that the wind is coming from.....this is a very small movement - and will help the kite to provide some lift on the way down.

Just before touching the water then bring the kite down and your off again ;)

You fly a Bow so, get back to some basics.

don't try for big jumps to start with.
just cruise along then bring kite to 12 O'clock and sheet in.

this should be enough to pop you up. Then steer the kite to the direction you are going and release some bar pressure.
as you land sheet in again to flair kite and cushion the touchdown.
then progressively pull harder on you front hand during each landing till it feels good.

When you have the kite control worked out jump size becomes a pop control thing.

If You are flying a bow kite, then its back to basics first. Kite at 45 degrees and work on pop, build up from light to hard pop, add heigt then distance. Once this feels comfortable, try popping off flat water as you bring the kite from 11 to 12 then sheet in hard, hold and glide using your stomach muscles to keep your knees up & bent, then sheet in hard on the front hand to dive the kite forward land downwind & balanced, edge and kite away.
