How does ruben lanten self-launch his slingy
like on his video's.....
Ive always used the sand method and id luv to learn this!!
looks preety crazy!!

pretty sure most people with bows and even regular kites launch like that here.
if u cant work it out i think u need some more lessons or you just need to sit down and really study some kite theory so u know what is actually happening.
p.s. or u could do what i would probably do if i didnt know, just go try it!!!

i reverse launch my sonic all the time now, there's less wear and tear on the LE than a traditional bow self-launch. it just turns around, then when it is sitting directly downwind of you on its LE, you grab both rear lines (not too much or they will fold over to windward when the kite goes up!) and pull them in. the kite will reverse launch upwards.
remember you're steering with apparent front lines now, so pull on the left one and the kite will turn right and vice-versa. once its up about 2-3m from the ground, it will rotate around one way. release the lines when it's pointing upwards, and either grab the bar or just let it shoot all the way out to depower the kite 100% if the wind is nuking. never been pulled more than 3-4 metres doing this.
on a C-kite, beware of the hot launch effect, as you can't depower the thing very much when it is pointing upwards in the window, directly downwind of you. make sure you have heaps of room, and practice on a small kite with light wind first.

yeah lenton is reverse launching. i only think he can do this effectively is coz he runs a 4-line bar. doing it with 5th line doesn't work so well. afaik.
he just pulls both steering lines at the same time, the kite hovers up, then lets go of one line. he gets hot launched coz he does it upwind of the kite ;)
