are you trying to say that when you self launch, and theres no sand, you get your papa to sit on the kite, and this doesnt work too well ?

Richrelative,
Maybe you're not ready for the self-launch.

What you need is a good kite-betty.

Sounds like your almost there but i reckon you should of stayed in the carpark. Sit yourself in a trolley so you dont have to run after the kite - make it a lot easier. Should be some good wind breaks there so hot launch straight downwind with a couple of bricks holding the canopy down. Cut the hook thing off - you dont need it. To stop the kite folding over just hold the bar on one side and you should be consistently powered then.

i found wrapping myself in bubble wrap means i can get a lot more 'tarmac time'. doesnt hurt so bad when u take out families putting their shopping in the car.

I reckon Rich Relitive is taking the piss. Nicely done too.

Great character. Reminds me of Sacha Baren Cohen's(Ali G) Borat Character.

And where's Poor Relo? Surely you've got some words of wisdom for your wealthier cousin?!

Rich rellie, oh distant second cousin twice removed.
Yeas the car park is the best, but ensure it is filled with shoppers on a sat arvo. and make sure you launch the kite directly downwind.

The book i believe your looking for is war and peace, by Leo Tolstoy have a read has lots of great tips for launching and landing in there

seriously though a wine cooler bag full of sand makes a good weight, just take of the pourer thing cause it hooks on to lines.

But i would just get me a kite gopher, betty or bob, to setup, launch, land, and pack up my gear - just get pappa to pay for those services and you will be right.
