Hi Crew,
My partner has finally taken the plunge and become one of us!
He had a long productive lesson yesterday (thanks boys, he said he had a great time- not what I could say of my first lesson!), and now he just needs time on the water.

We are heading to Gero next week when I finish work, can anyone suggest good spots for him to practice (body drag, and maybe thinking of starting with a board too) while I cruise around keeping an eye out for him?

Yep Seppo is great. Stay away from Point Moore. Try also near the Sand Dunes at Southgates , that's another spot.

separation is OK but you have limited "runs"(attempts") before you run out of water
and get caught on the lee shore and have to walk back. The wind also gets flukey on the inside there. It can also get busy and there are a few proficient sailors that show pony their jumps right on the shore etc etc.

As a recent newb I found that down near the dunes at southgates was the best , you just about have the place to yourself, the wind is very clean, mostly there is little to no shore break and you can arrange a support vehicle to pick you up along the tarcoola stretch (if you get going and go downwind) .

If you have a 4wd then you can drive right onto the beach and launch there and have a bout 500 m of beach you can drive down wind to "rescue" the downwinded learner and avoid the walk of shame. The turnoff to south gates is at the southern entrance to town off the NWC hwy just before the Tarccoola beach suburb starts (the dirt road with the southgates signpost!)

At the moment there is no weed and it is all good.

I live on the beach in Tarcoola beach and there been a lot of newbie's doin this run lately.
Seen some pretty specky stacks goin on too which is always good while havin a cold one
Almost called the rescue mob the other day for one fella who got a bit far out and couldn't relaunch.
Good luck with it.
