Any one done this down Winder could pm me things you need to know, would be great not very familiar with this area.My mate tells me he does the drive in his land cruiser, so thinking it shouldn't be to bad?, at least should be able to have a wagon following us up the coast.....

It's only about 10km or so, the beach break can be quite close to shore and shallow for the most part. The sand between fence reef and Ledge can be really heavy going for a 4WD too. No real need to have the mate tag you for the whole trip, just send him to fence reef to wait, it's that small point halfway between the two, use google Earth and come in through the old lime sand pit.

Lano to Wedge is the run you want to do.
There's a crew who hit up the that downwinder during Summer.
