I know there's already been a lot of discussion around the 'ideal' board, but I'm seeking thoughts specifically about a board for:

1. lightwind (<15kn)
2. NSW onshore slop

I'm 95kg and even my 14m won't generate enough consistent power to accelerate my (admittedly excessive) bulk on a 136 Caliber across these speed bumps.... even pointed downwind, it sinks in the lulls.

Now, I love the Caliber when it's blowing properly, but that's unusual in this part of the world. It's got a great edge but it's stiff and hard work across the corrugations. So I'm also thinking something with a bit more flex, maybe in the tips.

Oh, and one that carves nicely too, if that's not too much to ask.

Would much appreciate your experience with various options for make/model/size.

cheers

Hi Anthro

A board that I know works well in both the ocean chop and Botany Bay is the Cabrinha Prodigy 1.47, its got quite a bit more flex but still is stiff enough between the straps to give good edging, even in heavy chop.
The extra length is nice in waves too.

Another option that I've been riding recently is the new 2010 Underground Stella 1.44 x 44, we have both boards available for demo.

If you are using the board in swell/chop then the LF Proof 150 (151 x 43cm). Proof 160 maybe for you? Try both if you get the chance. I am 85ish kgs and the 150 gets me going nicely.

I have one and whilst there are better dedicated light wind boards, most of those are for flat water and go like a dog in the rough stuff. The Proof have a nice soft/rounded rail that is smooove in chop. I reckon the extra length helps tracking and drive better than a short/wide board.

Simple design, strong as fek and cheap as chips too. Goes tres nice in waves also.

Try contact Force Boards. I picked up a 140x43 Lost Cause board pretty cheaply. Its one of the best lightwind boards I've used and unlike some of the specialist boards, it handles the chop well.

I'll second the Lost Cause board. Was amazingly cheap, gets me going in nothing, smooth in the chop but can still throw it around like its a 130cm board. Don't know why it works so well, but it just does.
