Ive replaced my chicken loop and Ive got a feeling my front lines (incl CL) is too long, ie using the depower stap actually increases kites power.

whats the rule on line lengths?

when the lines (bar & CL incl) are all laid out to a stake in the ground should they all be the same length?

Cheers

I was told to stake the lines in one spot, let the depower strap all the way out; and then all 4 lines should be the same length.

But .. please correct me if i'm wrong.

Yep its too long and its killing the power (or else you have the back lines connected to the center)

Exact lengths depends on the kite.

I just bought a sonic and its apparently a bastard to trim at first. The way to trim it correctly is to fly it at 12 and pull the cleat in until it sids on the edge on the window and doesn't drop back

That should leave the back lines about 8 inches londer than the front ones.

but thats just for the sonic

I started with my lines all at the one length, but have now shortened the back lines (by one knot length each) as to give me more power... This is on my 10m Cab Element.. However, when I use the 16 Naish, I have to undo this knot otherwise they are too short, and the kite flies backwards too much and looses power...

Just have a little tweak with your lines, and by the sound of things, you need to make your front lines a tad shorter by either shortening the lines, or by repositioning them when you tie the lines to the kite. All the best mate

max power occurs just before the tips start to flare.

yep - it's all about what the kite looks like in the air - not all kites are set up the same! Most nowdays use even line lengths BUT some have them trimmed to be even at max power, others at max depower.

Best bet is take a kite caddie to the baech on a light wind day and "experiment"...
