no good reason really, but I'm gonna keep track of how many hours on the water I actually do this season. I already wear a cheapo watch and I'll just keep a written note in my car of kiteing times.
So starting now-ish and ending Easter is what I call the wind season.

Do some basic maths - average session(from launch to landing) X No of sessions per week X No of weeks
estimate how much riding you'll do this season!!!

Using this number as a goal, see how good/bad your season really is, and it'll inspire you to get out more often to try and smash that number!

my number is 120 ( I'm remembering the heatwaves of last summer - too many easterlies)

Challenge is out there - beat 120, be honest, and log back in at the end of easter to tell us how you actually went!

I have been keeping a log of my kiting since 2003 (I started kiting in 1999).

I have to keep a log for my paragliding hours. I made a spreadsheet and it is no drama putting kiteboarding hours in as well.

What I do is note the time when I head out on the water and note the time when I come in to pack up. I look up the wind strength and direction on the BOM site when I record the entries.

I don't take breaks when I kite so all the time is kiting time. I also extend my session out so it finishes on a full hour or half hour.

You have to be honest. Being at the beach from 12-4 is not 4 hours if you spent half the time on the beach talking to people.

Stats (from memory)

I have over 1000 kiting hours since 2003.
I get 120-150 hours a year (a year runs July-June)
I used to do mostly 1 hour sessions (after work or in winter). I have been cycling to work and I am fitter so a standard session is now at least 2 hours.

Most people hugely exaggerate how much kiting they do.

Normally we get 40% southerly winds with the rest somewhat evenly distributed across the other direction. Northerlies are usually around 10%.

For the past year northerlies are pushing 60% of sessions. I am hanging out for good 25+knot southerly session.

There is a guy who kites at our spot who takes home a pebble each time he kites and has been doing it for years. he gets his kids to pick the 'kiting rock' when they come down. I reckon itd be a cool pile by now & a nice visual reminder in the backyard of all those sessions

If I thought I'd have the patience to log the hours I would but I'm not that confident. Though being a frother, single, no kids and living 200 metres from the beach I reckon I'd give 100 hours a good go by the New Year?

ah I remember the days I could go out for 4-5 hrs! Body just can't handle it anymore, the ankles and knees scream, the back cramps, start seeing double...mermaids having sex on the beach with each other, no wait - that was a dream the other night.

Yeh 1.5hrs is a normal session, 2hrs I'm hurting. So 100 -120 hours a year is probably about right.

5-8 years ago I would have doubled that easily.

Only 38 and the footy injuries coming back to haunt ya. Little tip for youngins, if ya sprang ya ankle in a game, it is NOT good for you to put your foot in the esky and start drinking the piss in the esky!!

Buy an ashtray, bring a grain of sand every day and by the time you can plant a little cocktail umbrella inthe sand, you are doing well

Hows it hanging chriso!! Lancelin blowing yet?? Maybe I can log some hours up there, or just go from moment to moment, kite to kite, not knowing when it will be your last.

Hey chris, you could mulch the whole town, 100 times over with the weed ya get, and the possible windy days you get!

Nah no wind here, only rotting seaweed and sharks [}:)]

We might organise some wind for you eppo, but only if you consider loaning your CB Wave for a quick play
