hey just made a plywood plank that resembles a kite board very well and am now looking 4 some cheap straps and handle, dont need fins as im gonna use it 4 kickers only
Try rope and a door fridge handle or get an old pair of footy boots (i heard on another post boots are in) or contact Rhys he's prob gettin out of the sport
Hey Kitecrazzzy, I'm in the same situation as you. Got this web address from another post on Seabreeze. http://www.mit.edu/people/robot/zp/zeroprestige.html. Some interesting ideas on boards and hardware.
Think I'll be trying the zinc plated T nuts, as I can't find any stainless steel ones around Brisbane (unless I fork out for 50 of them!) Did the yellow pages walking, and the Ship Chandleries say ring the Nuts & Bolts shops, and then they say ring the Ship Chandleries.
it took a windless day to make and a tube of glue but the 120 by 38 has been created complete with copper pipe handle. stainless screws-we've got them from are boat rebuilding days... comon were can i get cheap straps and footpads i dont wanna be a wake sk8r
Stainless T Nuts are available from Bolt and Screw specialist stores like "Bolt In" They will order them in for you BUT they are bloody expensive. $4.00 each
I just made a ply board and decided that I wouldnt waste time and money on this so
I screwed the foot straps direct in with self tappers, stainless from a ship chandlers or hardware shop.Spaced them with washers so I didnt screw through the bottom and put two screws in each end so they dont pull out. $2-$3 max
The foot pads are cut from EVA foam available from Clark Rubber. They have these foam tiles Approx 600mmx600mm square for $10 and just cut them up with a stanley knife. Stuck down with double sided tape and a bit of wax on the top. they work fine.
The pads, you could easily make them up with seat belt braid and a bit of foam tubing, again from clark rubber, burn some holes for the screws and then screw them in. I actually bought mine new as I thought I would reuse these on the next project.
Handle no handle required, but you can buy nice handles quite cheaply from any hardware or ship chandlers. Again self tap into the board.
If you're after a cheap and cheerful board just glue your old sneakers to it. However, this will be crap. My advice - following years of research and development - would be to buy a set of good foot pads and straps; it turns a plank of wood into a half decent board and gives you a lot more control. If you want to skimp on foot pads (because let's face it, these are seriously over priced), try cutting them out of an old camping mat - you'll have one in your garage, and using epoxy resin to glue them on.
p.s. If you're interested in purchasing a 100% Australian grown plywood board with 3-stage rocker and single concave hull, let me know. Can be made to order.
its sorted now... only need some wind and by way of what it cost wood=$20 glue=$10 copper pipe (handle)= found in skip foot pads= old thongs foot straps= stolen from a windsurfer epoxy and associated= dunno
the bad thing about it is the straps (although kindly donated) say "windsurfer" on them
