Hi evryone, its really nice to have such a forum...I'm 210 lb and been searching for 5 days straight for a kite...but i never thought it would be so hard with all those kinds and specs....I'm a bit confused by now, and need some expert help not to get the wrong kite.

I'll be flying this kite on the mediteranian with wind speeds ranging 10-40 knots, short waves, west winds most of the time. My budget 200-300$ for kite, bar, and strings cuz i have a board. i have an offer for a caution santa cruz 15m in mint condition at 200$ or am I better off with Cabrinha Element 17m?... please advise.. cant wait to kitefly!!!!!!!
foil,c-shape,bow..etc whitch one

Please excuse Greeny, I reckon he's been drinking. Normally very resourceful.(Its was a little bit funny though).

Seriously, everyone will give you a difference of opinion on style. I personally think if that's all your budget is, then maybe look for 05 or 06 bow kite like a best Waroo for example. Now I'm not pimping, I'm just thinking that they are good quality kites in the lower price range.

If your new then this is a fact you should know...The newer the kite the more safety has been engineered into it, regardless of brand. I guess if you talking US$ then chuck another 100 in to make it $400 and go for any 2nd hand 06 bow kite in whatever brand catches your eye. They are all pretty good for what you want.

Also 210 lb is about 95kgs like me so if I wanted a kite to cover the best wind range a 12m would be good depending on the board you are riding. e.g bigger board smaller kite, vice versa. At your weight don't get smaller than 138 IMO.

That's my 2c, hope it helps in some way GL.

yeah i agree with blaster, hobbs.

im just starting out too, you can go spend 200 on a cheapy 04 kite and learning will take a little while, more dangerous and more fun.

but ive been told and ive used the new ones, brand new or 2nd hand 07 kites are worlds apart from even the 06 range. massive depowers, suicide leash and safety systems are a lot easier, self rescue and 'spinnaker' systems make things very very safe. and water relaunchs and self launch is SO easy.

I had a lesson with an 9m 07 Airush DNA (which was awesome btw), then i bought a 14m 04 Naish X3, and yeah...i never use it now cause im afraid ill break my neck.

Mate, you think you got problems. I'm thinking of buying my 5th kite now, I still don't know what to get.

The question you have to ask yourself is: What is the distribution of windspeeds where you're going? Does it spend more time from 10 to 20 knots, or does it spend more time from 20-30, or what?

Of that list I've heard the best reviews of the Naish Raven, but it's high aspect so might be a bit difficult for a first kite. I haven't flown one. If the wind was going to be mostly 10-20 knots and I was 210lb I'd buy that one. I'm closer to 240lb, so I have a vague idea about what should work for you. Be wary of advice from people who aren't close to your weight, they often get it wrong.

They often get it right though, so don't disregard them entirely. I might even be a bit far away from 210 to be accurate.

Other than that, if the wind is more like 15-25 knots most of the time I'd be looking down that list at the 13m. I haven't flown one of them either, but I've heard nothing bad about them.

my two bob.

sea hobba...consider a venom 13 or 16, the version 2 is good as well and super easy to fly. less time actually in the drink means more fun times!
You can pick up a v 1 for the price your talking but they are all good.

-the torch is brand new (i like the design) (for 300 with bar, lines, pump, is that a good offer?)
-im still reaserching like a phd chemist, gaastra vision 14m sounds good, and so does North rhino 16m, but durability wise i have no clue which is better, cuz where im going "EGYPT!!", there will be no way to get pro help for repair.

i'm all ears..and i better settle on 1 soon or ill fly with no kite

Outta that list, get the 13m slingshot 06 kite is the way to go. It will take a little longer to learn on the C kite but you will appreciate it in the long run.

It's a pretty hard thing to call for someone else what kite to buy. just get one to learn then go demo a ****e load in 6 months when you can be trusted and then decide what style you like.

Please reassure us all you've had lessons or intend on having them. That's where you can try different styles, an instructor can also give you valuable info to help with the decision.

Not much more can be said on a forum

Haha pro, Nah man. Just done enough research to be able to give you some info that might be useful... You'll soon realise this sport is very unique in a way everyone has different likes and opinions on virtually every aspect of the sport.

You sure you not kite boy the 3rd...LOL [}:)] C'mon is that you Brad, surely there can't be 2 people out there that start a sentence with lower case letters

Man this is hard to follow...are you wanting a kite quickly to take on holiday with you to learn

Have you got that budget because you are young with limited funds

Are you going to have lessons they aren't cheap either, but essential.

All the kites your listing are bigish. even at 210lb you will hold them down in up to 20knots, after that it will making your learning extremely difficult. IMO you should be looking around a 12m or 13m. with plenty of depower (06) onwards.

In regards to the board, I've never wake boarded so don't really know but wakeboards are designed to pull behind a boat surfboards are designed to ride waves and so on. Kite boards are for people flying kites and once again will be easier to learn on.

You seriously need to think about once you have learnt, you will get an idea for what you need and it aint going to be cheap. Are you sure your doing the right thing

Personally I had my first lot of gear for 6 months just got rid of it all recently, now I know what I'm looking for and need and will be setup ready for summer on the right gear.
