I am having a friend shaping a surfboard . Can someone advise how many layers and oz cloth should I use on the top and flat? I will use it to ride waves only. Size 6.4 22 wide 3 and round tail. I had google the question. I am looking for answers for a kite surfer who has build his own board. Thank you in advance. My weigh is 100 K.

I go for a 4 oz on the bottom and 2x 4 oz on the deck but I'm only 65kg.

I think you should go for a 6 oz on the bottom and a 6 oz & 4oz on the deck with a 4 oz patch under your front foot.

I use 4 oz bottom and 4 oz top with a 6 oz deck patch under the foot area. I also use a Kevlar strip down each rail where the board normally creases. Use the rocker line that would be used on a fish rather than a shortboard, unless your after a high wind board. Single concave into a relatively flat tail seems to work well.

Can I just take one of my old surfboards and give it an extra layer of glass?

I just take a standard surfboard that is a bit smaller than I could easily surf and add a big 6oz and a slightly smaller 6oz patch to the deck. I have eventually creased every board but usually after a couple of seasons. I don't try to do massive strapless ollies though. It is a very cheap easy and effective way to get just the board you want.

^^^ +1 much more fun and about 80% cheaper than the rigid epoxy slabs that pass for "kiteboards"

I imagine if he is 100 kegs he is probably also tall, I ride a 6'1" but the best size I had was 6'2", you want the feeling of surfing he wave, not skimming it, right?

I have snapped about 8 boards kiting, i now get custom 2 x 6 ounce top and bottom with a extra carbon fiber layer as a minimum, it may be slightly heavier, but it wont break so easily.

2x 6oz on top and 1x 6oz on the bottom gets me about 2 seasons use no worries.
That's a pretty big board your shaping you'd want some pretty low rails to keep an edge and to stop it bouncing round in the chop. I'm heavier than you and like 5'11 19 1/2 2 1/4 ish sled. Good luck
