hey just wondering if i could ask a HUGE favor to get some advice.

Are there any guys that do any FIFO or DIDO mining jobs along the coast in Aus? Am thinking of taking up entry level work and have days off near the coast to kite board?

I remember reading about a few kiters who were on the coast that could kite days off from mining work etc.

Anyways if anyone had a tips it would be much appreciated.

Yeah, but did anyone see him land it?
Back to topic. I have a mate who moved to WA for mining work and also had the dream to work and kite. Been there 6 months and hasn't kited once. Works, hates the place and can't wait to get out of there.

HAHAHA I made the same mistake!!! Plenty of time to travel OS in your days off though. Been in WA since April and I've kited once! (not due to lack of wind)

There are hundreds of projects happening all over the country. (many of them FIFO to coastal cities)
Get some skills and ring them up with your pitch ready.
here's a few to get you started:

My mate worked as a geologist in the Pilbara and used to do a 9 day on 5 day off roster, with travel included in the 9 days. He rented down in Margaret River and used to go surfing all the time on his days off.

He now does a 3 week on 3 week off roster, living in Paris and working in Guinea. He travels every swing.

I've done a 3 week on/off swing into PNG from Melbourne.

Right, so my experience was, if you have a girlfriend/wife/partner, who works a 9-5, you won't just be able to take off on your days off as understandably, they can't take the time off as well, but you need to be around to spend time with her (not complaining, it's just a fact)

If you're my mate, who has no girlfriend, no house no worries then it's awesome, you can do what you want.

If you start doing the standard Aussie bogan FIFO practice of accumulating a house, boat, 4WD, jetski, 3 plasmas, sleeve tattoo then you will need to spend your time off servicing your liabilities.

So my advice is, do the job, live somewhere close to Perth (Margs is probably your limit in terms of distance, Lancelin is probably better for kiting) save your cash for big trips.

I used to do FIFO on an 8/6 roster in WA, living in Perth.....I'd never kited so much in my life!!

Its a good way to get some solid kiting under your belt and you'll meet other FIFOers who kite too.

Only trouble is trying not to blow all your cash on kiting gear during your break!

uncrowded surf too. Dude if ya single, you do want you want to do - so kite, if young family forget it.

But the only thing is, living and working where you mainly kite (as I do), can pick ya days, get out for a quick hour session, maybe two then home again.

Also when you get those runs of a week with no wind, (at start and at end), I'd be frustrated if that was my time off and the two weeks on it blew its nuts off. Yeh go a 3 by 3, more chance of getting a decent kite window.

Mate as the other dude said, save ya money and create a lifestyle one day where you can kite whenever you want - if you are a young bloke got many years to kite. Don't get in the CUB trap.

And those that don't like WA...seeya - enjoy the wonders of kiting in melbourne - ha ha ha

There are other good spots out of WA that don't involve Melbourne conditions. I run a home based business in QLD that allows me to drop everything when it blows. I live 4 mins drive from my favourite spot and am often there in the middle of the day all alone, doesn't get much better

If ya single, do it man....
The money is outa this world....

It's like a mate said to me about working in Saudi Arabia tho....

you have two buckets....one fills up with money and one fills up with frustration/boredom
which ever one fills up first ? Your sanity will be the decider.

Or you can become a firefighter and work 2 days, have 6 off, live in the place you want to live, spend time with your family, then take your 6 weeks holiday every 9 months and travel.

Those who bag Melbourne obviously haven't kited here - plenty of great spots, a location for every wind direction, amazing beaches within an hour drive for wave work. Awesome northerlies in the winter and good consistent seabreezes in the summer (except last summer, that just sucked) I mean, Ewan Jaspan wouldn't have got to be as good as he is if we had no wind...

Plus we have daylight savings, an awesome idea that everyone in WA threw out because they thought it faded the curtains... wtf?

Yeh I'm sure every sailor said yes to daylight. This is the 'can't do' state for a lot of things. Sorry if I offended you about melbourne, was just comparing to WA that's all.

Fair point, I haven't kited Melbourne, and yeah, daylight saving is great. Unfortunately, Queenslanders voted against daylight saving also, said the cows wouldn't know what time to go to bed!

There mainly after operators(truck, dozer, shovel) who are not clean skin. I'm pretty sure they advertised through seek the other week. And they usually get workers through Global Production
