this may sound funny but i was just lookin at those new naish kites and thought what stops the wind gettin under the leading edge when your doin your lines??? they give you all this info on how good it is but they only seem to show it in diagrams eg. they dont show it re-launching off the water but tell you it will easier then any other kite anyone seen or riddin one yet??????.... on the other hand have heard soom really good things about the ss rev!

Well, I haven't quite a rational explanation about it, but the kite just sits there. I was curious about this too and first secured the kite with sand, but then decided to leave it without to see what would happen (I like living dangerously!)... Answer: nothing...
I will ask JB what's the theory behind it, but matter of fact, it does stay there and doesn't suddenly go for a ride on its own. Well behaved kite!

Similar to the Rebel (or SLE's), just hold on to one of your back lines, the kite flips on the side (on the pointy bit of its leading edge) and relaunches directly from there (without slowly getting back to the edge of the window like a round leading edge does). Tip I've worked out: hold on to that back line until the kite is up in the air. If you release it before it is totally out of the water, it flips back to its leading edge.
But it is easy as pie to relaunch it. I hadn't read any instruction about relaunch before flying it but got it out of the water on my first try and within few seconds...

I *suspect*

that the wind that travels underneath the kite prevents a low pressure forming behind the kite, and hence the majority of the wind pushes the kite down, without getting "sucked" down...

Think about a wall: If you built a solid wall, wind swirls at the back... if however you put a few small holes in the wall, there is almost no wind at the back, as the holes keeps enough air coming through to equalise the pressure at the back of the wall (or kite)

My tip is always put sand on the kite no matter what, wind changes and does unexplained things. loose kites are our biggest threat.

Hookworm,

The explanation from GranG, is pretty right. And it is amazing how the kite stays still on the beach, even in plenty of wind. We were leaving kites un-sanded in Maui, and never saw one kite slide at all! I still recommend sanding your kite, especially if you are leaving it for a period of time.

I think it may do what the old TD's can do, the front of the LE sits just off the sand and they are fine but when the wind is stronger they can start to bounce up and down a bit and rock, you may get enough bounce to get wind under it to pick it up and off she goes, prob won't happen with enough air in it tho.

Hookworm,

Get in touch with RPS and SHQ. I believe they either have demo's or are expecting them in the next shipment.
