as a former wakeboarder turned kitesurfer i posted a thread on the wakeboarding forum asking if anybody kitesurfs . i did not say that one was better than the other all i asked was if anybody kitesurfed and man did i get plasted what a bunch of F wits .they are all pissed because we can do all the tricks they do and more and we did not spend $50,000 on a boat that cannot even get to rotto
apparently we are called TEA BAGGERS has anybody here this term .
also this F wit that runs the site said that i kite surf because i have no mate to go wakeboarding with . i have met more great people in the last 2months than i would have ever imaged all with the same interest and willing to help ,not with a ego saying "my boats better than your ".this gay was so stupid that he call the tricks kitesurfer do guy even though most of them come from wakeboarding.
anyway just venting my anger hope not all wakeboarders are that narrow minded . i was not.has anybody come across this
from now on every time it is windy i will think of him.

I think they inhale to much fumes while getting towed.
just think of the fresh air we get and the peace & quiet.

They're just jealous coz they can't drive the boat while riding the board... or turn the boat vertical... or go out in the surf... or spend a day on the water without spending a cent..

Jags I'm happy you're not bringing the attitude with you like some do, we don't *need* it in this sport, we're all too busy having a farkin awesome time!

/welcome to your new obsession!

The term I heard for us was shark lures, as well as tea baggers. Personally I like being a shark lure. Kinda has a nice ring to it, don't ya think?

Kitesurfers have borrowed a lot from wakeboarding.(Along with surfing and windsurfing). For instance, there's all the tricks and ofcourse the Twin-Tip is really just an evolved version of a wakeboard.

Unfortunately plastic 'kite' pants somehow snuck into kiting, probably influenced by wakeboarding fashion victims.
I won't even mention about boardshorts worn over the outside of wetsuits........dumb!

Its just the same old storey....
Every sport thats 'new' & 'extreme' that is similar to another sport goes through the same process it seems. Generally speaking, the other sports feel 'threatened' by you and group together to in small groups to 'hate' you. It seems that the groups are mostly formed by try hard wannabe pros. The real professionals of a sport dont seem to care about this sort of crap, as they usually went through the same 'hatred' when they first started. They tend to know what its like to be outcast by other sports or the masses & will show a lot more appreciation for what you can do, they try to learn off you to further their own sport rather then just bag you. They know how hard you have to work to make a new sport 'popular' to the masses and give it its own direction. It happened to skateboarders, bodyboarders, inline skaters, & even wakeboarders took like 3years doing other sports tricks before they went off in their own direction.
Just have fun what your doing, who cares what they think.

They are probably just jealous of the fact we can do all their tricks so easy & that the general public would way rather watch a kiter go flying up high in the air then watch a guy being towed by a boat.

I reckon the petrol fumes was a good call...

It seems to be that most that I have come across have been pointy headed bogans... however in saying that, there are 'winners' in every sport, including ours.

If you're having fun, then you should be stoked, and there's no need to be a d*ck about anything really. One of the best things about kiting is the attitude of most of the crew doing it... full credit to all!

Keep it chilled out, keep it friendly, keep it fun i reckon!! ;)

Deano

ps... maybe some of those dudes just need a hug, or is it cause all the best looking girls are in our sport.?!? :P

Jags ,
which forum is this?

Most wakeboarders that I know of are super keen on kiteboarding!
Maybe its just that forum..

As a former trick skier and wakeboarder I have to say this reaction doesn't surprise me at all.
The problem is rather than just doin there own thing and enjoying it it is a real competative and bull**** vibe (girls as well). I have never met so many poseur/wanker/boguns in my life!! So much so i just got sick of it and consentrated on surfing before getting into kiting this year.
Not that I haven't come accross a few in k/s crowd as well mind you!!! At least with k/s there seems to be more mellow DTE people involved and unlike waiting to ski, if I get within earshot of some poseur ****er types I can just grab my kite and head out away from this crap! LOL...
Dig your own fun and leave the ****ers behind on the beach with their gullable onlookers....
Enjoy

ah well let them call us whatteva they wanna, at the end of the day i can throw my gear into my car and drive away, no boat to wash, rgister, launching fees, larger V8 to tow the damm thing, etc etc.

wind is free, so tapp that resource!

catch yas..

p.s. i like the tea-bag name.........beats being a dude who gets trauled behind a boat for Jaws to come up from the lurky depths and take a nibble.

love the responce but could not here you over the sound of the engine .
Monkey , i wont tell you the name of the site because my intention was not to start a slagging match. But i'm sure you can find it if you look .
hosh ,i have a boat too that i share with two mates which we use for wakeboarding it is old and only worth about $8,000 but does the job. It has a outboard on it so is not that great for wakeboarding but we can take it to rotto and go fishing and diving with it .which i can do with all my new mates i make from kitesurfing

Two points.

1. Kiting is the future for a green planet. Clean, green, noiseless, transportable and sustainable. Guilt free, drug free kicks for the environmentally aware. Hydrocarbon consumption is permanently F......g the atmosphere and climate change is real. Wind is nature's energy source, lets use it.

2. How many wakers haven't let the wakeboarding slip to No. 2 priority after getting into kiting. A wake boat is a kite parked at 15 degrees. Nice but you cant knock variety.

dont forget to consider the "cost" of manufacturing materials used in construction of kites and boards...

having said that theres a huge "cost" in manufacturing a boat too ;)

Wakeboarding is probably a good thing to do when you live in a place with zero wind............like Darwin.

It's all true. Almost. Maybe I've been kiting at the wrong places but I've seen about fifty times as many hot barbie doll looking chicks hanging around boats. Where are all the hot chicks in kiting? I've only met about four.

Though that comment about having no friends to drive the boat hits home a little.
