hey there fellow kiters,
i been kiting for like 3months now and loveing it but i have this 1 problem when its like around 10-12knots and i really have to do loots of turns with the kite to get going and when i get up on the board and the kite comes down to the bottom of the wind window it starts flaping and loses power, im not sure what im doing wrong i try and steer it back up in fast motions but when it starts flaping i just loose power and normally sink back in the water on my board. I thought it might be that im going downwind too long when i get on the plane and not carving upwind early enough causing the kite to depower.. but i find thiers not enough power to carve upwind causing me togo downwind ..
anyway i hope this makes sense
if anyones got any tips it would be most appreciated
ohh yea i got a 12m switchblade 2 and 138(07) underground and i weigh like 85-90kg if that helps

Hi, I use the SB2 and weight about 78kgs, 11 knots is about the bottom end limit for me using a TT 130 x 40, anything under that would need a bigger kite or bigger board. try and fly the kite through the middle of the power zone as much as possible the trick is to not over sheet the kite and stall it, when you feel the kites pull, stick your hips up and out which will flatten the board giving you more planning area, track a little down wind to get some speed then you should be able to gently rail your board up wind a little.
I find that trying to get going in lite winds is a delicate proccess, you need to find the balance between you, the kite and the board. what i mean is when you feel yourself loosing speed, stick out the hips and go down wind, Try not make any sudden pulls on the kite or rail the board aggressivly. Also, getting going in light winds is soooooo much easier in flat water, find the flatest part of your local spot and practice there, even if it is shallow and you get sand in your jocks.

thank you, i must try that hips trick
so if you oversheet by pulling the bar in it stalls the kite does it?

Your problem is clearly this .... You are riding a kite that is far too big for you in those wind conditions .... you need something that matches your IQ ..... has anyone got a 12 centimetre trainer for this joker

Nice try though joker ... but if you're gonna try to float BS about a 12m kite carting a 90kg boofhead around in 10kns ... then you need too do your research a littlemore thoroughly ..... everyone knows that only a Waroo 9metre will do that

You are obviously full of GOOSE sh1t ... just like me

With your weight and board size a 12m aint gonna cut it in 10-12knots. Either upgrade to a bigger board or kite

Funny how people make a post and so many people take the piss,
Your kite is definetly to small to get you going in 10 to 12 knots.
so is your board, but good on you for giving it a go, if you want more power out of your kite youhave to start not with your kite at 12 o clock but further back on the other side of the window so when you dive it you make it run deeper in the power zone and longer, note you also have to start bringing the kite up early so that it will drive up staying in the power zone. If you let the kite run to the edge of the window you'll stop and the kite may either reverse or come up very slowly with no power, either way your back in the water..
Board skills aas you come up don't over edge as kite will run to edge of wind window and you stop, try evening weight out between feet and use the length and width of board more surface area earlier planning..
If you really want to ride in ligth winds I reccomend a slingshot machine and a glyde board.
I have riden with the 25 machine the boys threw the kite in the air and i had to run back to get it to fly, on the glyde when there was glassy flat water, approx 6 to 8 knots 72 kgs. I couldn't do tricks but could go up wind was amazing.
Anyway good luck and good kiting

Yeah, what sorse said. I don't know how big bow kites work for sizing, but if you want a C you want to think about somewhere between 16m and 20m. The 16m won't be as good in 10-12 as the 20, but it should take you from 12 to 18 or so while the 20 might only be good for 10-14. I spent an hour or so today on my 16m in 16-20 knots and was perfectly powered, and I'm 110-115kg. On a 134x41 board.

I don't tend to bother in less than 15 knots anymore.

simple there is not enough wind for your weight on that kite. In fact at 10 - 11 knts my 12m sw will barely stay in the air. My advice wait for another day. Or diet severely

often I can only kite during the morning or early afternoon so I'm having to make do with lite winds - before the seabreeze picks up. I got a large flysurfer foil (13m) which I reakon has doubled my time on the water. However it's not like flying an 11m LEI in 20knts, but it does get you going in 10knts on a 144x44 board (75kgs).

if you're really into light wind kiting check this out:

(you might have to travel a bit for the snow as well.....)

cheers
