i,ve been kiting for 2 years now on a c kite which i find quite good, 2004 cabrina 10m .i wouldn,t say im good by any means but i love the sport. ive bought a 9m best waroo and need to learn how to self launch,as not many kiters around my area . if i use an anchor point for the chicken loop eg fence post ,can i place the kite at the side of window with full de power and will it stay there while i go back and hook in is it that easy or am i mistaken cheers 4 any help

You can do the 'anchor to a fence post' launch, or you could do the leading edge down then dry relaunch method. The fence post method would probably be better as dry relaunching means that a small part of your leading edge will be dragged across the sand as you launch.

Probably best to experiment and see what works for you.

if you use the search function with "self launch" as the string you'll get plenty of info - this topic must have come up 3-4 times in the last 12months alone.

good luck with it. Try in 10-12knots first.

bighen....

I fly waroo's and usually self launch off the towball of my car, since where I mainly kite... everyone drives thier cars on the beach. just make sure you have the kite fully depowered when you do so.... I've done it in winds up to about 25 knots... (and more a few times when I've had too) but if you're doing it when it's really windy... then its a good idea to have a safety leash connected incase the kite goes across the window.

Obviously..... if it is really windy and there are other people around, then get them to assist with the launch, but if you are on your own.... give it a go. The kite will stay at the edge of the window (the kite might bounce up and down a little bit sometimes.... but will stay there unless something interferes with the lines)

Doesn't really matter if you de-power or not. As long as your kite is at the edge of the window and reasonably steady you can drop it without too many dramas.

Gotta love a Waroo!

And while we're worshiping the Waroo, Gday Pete!
