hey everyone. i only moved to sydney a little while ago and keen to get into the kiting scene in sydney. I've just moved to Mascot and looking to get into the kiting around the Brighton Le Sands, La Perous, Dolls Point and Sans Souci scenes. I dont have a car in Sydney yet but am keen to come out and get into it...maybe land and launch for awhile until I bring my kiting gear down from Brissy.

give me a buzz if anyones got any info on where to go and how to get there.

cheers

Hi Mike

Get a lift, bus ot cab down to my shop at 302 The Grand Parade Sans Souci, I can show you a map in the shop that has all the spots on it. Once you start turning up there and do the landing and launching thing, locals will love you and then when you get your gear you will have no hassles or fears about where to kite. There is a big and friendly bunch of users around the bay, always willing to accept a newbie, especially one who approaches this way. You will likely meet someone who can offer you lifts to and from the local spots too?

Goodwinds

Go to www.131500.com.au to find buses/trains/etc/...

The 303 goes right to Dolls Point, straight past Steve's shop too...

We're already friendly as can be.... especially if you've also got an AKSA tag (showing you've got your insurance up to date - www.nswkba.com.au for Sydney).

Rockin', see you down there..

Gday Cap!

thanks for that ill give ya a buzz sometime!

Im just at Mascot. I caught the 303 bus over to Dolls point and checked out the KP shop today. Yeah dolls point looks a bit busy for me at this stage, but its great to watch everyone and everyone is pretty friendly. I tend to think ill be having my cold ones there on days i can't be bothered kiting. What concerns me is losing my board in that area. The tides look a bit strong and I dont wanna lose my Thorn it's my pride and joy!

Brighton near the novotel looked pretty good. Id like to try that on the N's and S's. It's closer to Mascot and looked like there was more space.

Anyways hope to catch up with everyone again. I usually finish work by 10am most days that works well with kiting!!

Hey Mike,

Welcome to Sydney Mate. Check out www.nswkba.com.au if you havent already.

Dolls is a little crazy at times however if you are a competant rider and safe you will be OK. Usually if you lose a board another kiter is happy to pick it up for you. Get to know as many people(kiters) as possible and everyone keeps an eye out for each other.

Kurnell is great once your out on the water however it can be dodgy when you launch and land. Not much room for error at Kurnell. Rock Groynes, close to road/houses, dogs (watch out for nuggets), Smackies shoot up there occasionally and leave there needles on the beach. Dont want to turn you off but its good to know what your getting into. Just be very careful around Kurnell. Great Flatwater riding and gets the strongest cleanest NE in the Bay. Take about 20 - 30mins from Mascot to get to. Nice locals there too.

All the best Pm me if you need help with anything.

Hi uber thanks for your advice its greatly appreciated.

I am not familiar with Kurnell? is that the area under the flight path of Sydney Airport's Botany Bay Runways on a southern approach? I have seen Kiters kiting in that area from the air.

I met a few nice folks on Monday and launched and landed a few kiters but I'd still like to know more and break into the scene a bit more just for extra peace of mind if anything happens. I have checked out the nswkba Ill sort out membership when I can.

Dolls Point is too busy for me. I'd like to keep away from crowds so I was thinking further north up the beeach to 'presidents' might be a bit better. I dont have a car in NSW so I'm going to have to rely on public transport like the Bus which really sucks when you are lugging around kiting stuff but I'd be keen to try other areas and Im used to launching and landing in tight spots in QLD.

I hope to catchup sometime make some more friends to go kiting with

cheers

Mike
