Hay in fact someone did, and you assume to much. So put away your assumptions you jumped the wrong way. I am glad your not armed i would have been judged juried and executed in a flash. Nice work mate!!

Wow take it easy i would never keep a board i found and could not agree more with following good karma. Holy hell it was just a question. I ask it because i think i might have seen someone pick my board up out of the water and was wondering what rights the had with reference to salvage.
Sorry i asked it.

i would expect the police have a procedure for lost/found property fairly well documented

ive heard of ppl reporting things to the cops and after a certain lengthy period of the item not being claimed it goes along the lines of finders keepers

id also expect that at any time if someone can prove ownership (reciept w/ serial number etc) that they can quite literally take the board?

so after everyone has had their say (including me earlier), no one has REALLY managed to answer the original question about salvage rights.

So I'll do the research:

"When a ship or boat has been rescued or salvaged without prior agreement between the owner and the salvor, the salvor in some circumstances can legally claim recompense or "salvage rights"." - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvage

So if your kiteboard can be classified as a ship/boat, then I'd say that applies. There's a whole heap more on that site including flotsam/jetsam blah blah.

I think you'd struggle to say a kiteboard is a vessel.

hey richo, i thought the intent behind your post was entirely obvious. ive wondered this as well, especially if you have your name on it. i lost a board a while back and it came back to me as it had my phone number on it...

yeah richo, sorry bro, i was a bit rash, just one of those things when you say your thing then think about it later.
touchy subject for all of us who have seen boards dissappear over horizons. anyway the whole point of this forum is to raise questions, bad karma to me.
