Im looking to buy a 9m kite but i am stuck on what to buy cost restricts me alot but i am still leaning towards a new kite. I have flown a 9m waroo and enjoyed it but since i own a 13m instinct i have preference for them. my dilemma best waroo, ozone lite or ozone sport? i have been advised to go with a ozone lite but i am a little unsure, does anyone here own a lite or sport ozone kite? how do they go? are they worth it in the long run? and what do you think of them?

Hi KDA

Not many Ozone Lights or Sports out there yet, but there will be. The kites were only delivered last week, anything that was available before that was likely one of uour demos. Come and try one.

Its a good idea not to mix your quiver, you already know the Ozone system, you know the quality, and we will fix any issues you have with your 13M at no cost to you.

Come in tomorrow, there will be great wind for a demo.?

I tried the 13M Sport at Northhaven in Adelaide last week, wind was a gusterly NNW, so cross off. Super flat water behind the breakwall, some of the flatest possible!
For a 13M kite straight out of the bag I was really impressed, fast forward flight speed, quick turning and turns on an arc around the the inside of the wingtip, so pretty tight turning, but with enough power in the turns to be good for kiteloops and transitions.

Depower is excellent, although with the trimmer set all the way out I did get nailed by one gust and was just hanging off it, could really have used an 11m that day. Upwind is easy, I think I was outpointing everyone there once I was not overpowered.

One pump system is simple and proven, its the same as found on the Slingys and Flexis.

We have our first shipment in stock now, ask you local kite shop to get them in for you. Several shops already have there is at least one stockist in each state, where are you from?

We will be doing demos today at Dolls, wind is Southerly, around 15 - 20 knots SSW, should swing a bit more South, but its rideable now.
The 13M Sport I tried is in Adelaide for demos still drop in to see Phil at the Semaphore "Kite Factory" shop.

I got to ride the 15m and 11m last weekend and they really made me horny. They are just excellent. Coming from Fuels, Rhinos, Spectrums & Links these things blew me away.
A guy the same size as me (95kg) was on the 11m while I was on the 15m. both boosting. The 11m is quicker obviously and I think the 13 would be perfect with a 9m.
They didn't seem to "dump" power when sheeting out, it was a really progressive depower. They're fantastically stable, built incredibly well and have heaps of low end.
Oh yeah... and NO PULLEYS. Awesome. I've ordered mine.

kitedevil- which one did you use? the light or sport? im am inches away from purchasing a second smaller kite a 9m light to compliment my 13 instinct. i like the ozones i have had a little trouble with mine but probably cause im still learning, but havn't heared much from any riders to push me over the line to purchase one.

I was riding the sports. If you're learning i think Steve said the lights depower quicker, could make it easier to learn on?
But the things were rigid, stable, sweet flying machines. I've seen nothing like them before, I guess the designer bloke with the Dr of Aeronautical Engineering or whatever it is knows his stuff.
I prefer the Slingshot eject system though, but not having pulley's I reckon is much safer. Pulleys eat lines, people dont check them, pulleys break, usually out the back, so on so forth. I like the idea it's more like a "surfboard" or C-Kite, take it out of the bag and use it.
KDA - Getting reviews on a just released kite is near on impossible. I haven't flown it in all conditions, so my knowledge is limited, but IMO go for it.
You mentioned problems, what have you encountered?

kitedevil- i own a 13m ozone which i really enjoy and have heared so much positive feedback in regards to the top grade material used, construction and so forth. but i have had a problem or two. first one was unwanted release of the chicken loop however i have been told that this was a minor fault which was easily fixed, caused by the finger on the chicken loop being to small.

The second was stalling in lighter winds. i was using a 13m and others having lessons were using 9-11ms but mine just wouldn't fly and had a very hard time with it. I was told by the instructor it was due to the shape that the instincts can have a tendency to stall due to their flatter shape, that weekend i used a 9m waroo and went fine. weather it was a lack of skill or the flatter shape im not sure.

However its been put in for an upgrade to help aid my flying style and cant wait to get it back and have a go. as for the light i think im sold but just wanted to get all the info i could before purchasing......this isn't a cheap sport.

Hi JiP

You've misunderstood my post, I am totally sold on this years kites, and I thought ladt years were excellent toobut needed some tweaking in the bar lines are to get them to fly good for most people.

This years kites are totally sorted for most riders, anyone wanting a slightly different tune from the kite will find them easy to tweak anyway, but straight out of the bag they are excellent.

I got nailed in that gust and freaked a bit because it was about 45 degrees offshore and all I could think about was the several miles till I maybe made it ashore at Semaphore!!

Thanks to some kind local on a rebel who brought my board downwind for me I was able to get going again and the wind also dropped a little bit so I was nicely powered for the rest of the session.
I really like the Sports and Lights which I have flown the most, more youthful riders may like the Edge more, which is a higher aspect ratio and is faster and more lifty than the Sport, the edge turn tighter with less power than the Sport, but definitely has more lift, it jumps huge and long!

SOS in Perth have a demo Sport 11M, drop and and have a chat and demo it if you can.

I own an 11m instinct, havnt had any problems, have just done the bridel mod to it, and it hammers now.

I have had a very good look at the light in kitepower, and i have to say, they are a very nice kite, they are really well built, better than the original instinct, have more padding around the LE. If they are better than the original it will be super stable kite, thats so easy to use.

I would recommend a quiver of 13m and 9m, the low end of the original instinct isnt as good as clamed but the top end way exceeds the clamed values, this season i have used my 11m from 13 to 30 knts.

ill be buying a 9m instinct for next season (riding the 11m in 30knts was "trying" on me)

G'day KDA

That is some strange instructorspeak, ignore it, probably has a lot to do with what the said instuctor has in store or sells.

The Ozone is not a weird shape, it is not super flat or wildly different in design to other kites.

The problem you were experiencing will be gone soon, I am going to tweak your bar and lines today and with what I have said about pushing the bar out when the kite slows, as well as the rear bridle mod that stalling will be a thing of the past.

Whenever I have seen a kite stalling no matter whether is is a C, Bow, or Arc, it is due to a combination of rider error and tuning, every time!

Just ordered my sweet flying machines.

11 and 7

RE stalling- I'm no instinct expert, but I did read somewhere that somebody with an 06 13 did have that problem but solved it by depowering the kite a bit and letting it fly. This would imply that it was happening due to oversheeting? It makes sense as you do see a lot of people, that are starting out, oversheeting kites. Sounds like the 07's are tuned to it already though.

Now I wait.
