I sit here typing in agony after approx 15 aerial handle pass attempts yesterday that all ended in a 1 handed twist/fall back to the water followed by a very slow kiteloop. (I dont like letting go)

what i want to know is, is there any trick to getting inverted quicker? (ie, a certain way to pop off the water allowing my feet to go foward straight away)

I am holding the bar in the middle, I know I am meant to pass at the peak of the jump, but I cant get inverted quick enough, and I know i have enought height, I have watched the footage.

note, I am attempting the old-school dingle dangle type pass here, no power at the moment.

Cheers, james

Hi Sandman,

J.A.T.O. Rockets attached to your board, should help with inversion and height

Failing that, a board with a bit more spring in the tail will probably help get you off the water. To get the inverted bit, try swinging your legs back a bit on releasing your edge a bit like a railey take off and use the swing momentum to help bring your legs up. Also best to wait till your at the apex so you ain't fighting the upward accellerational forces. At the peak there will be no more "up" which will make it easier.

Or I could be wrong

Nah, Stick with the J.A.T.O.'s

Good winds,

Its all about where your head goes. After yuove railied off the water anjd have started to bring the board forward, you need to throw yourself really hard and sling your upper body/head back as hard as you can.
If you're watching your feet go up, forget it, your body will be curled up and wont get inverted.

for pullups, ive found that if you have enough upper body strength it really doesnt matter how you pop or jump.

you need enough strength to pull the bar from a full stretch above your head to a elbows-locked-by-your-sides position. from there you can use your arms to twist your body around the bar.

if you dont have the strength, or mis time the jump etc, ive found that the key is to pendulum your legs/board above your head as you pull the bar down to your hips and to kind of throw your body a bit like a high jump. arching your back and neck more will help a lot and really kicking/extending your legs up

When I was learning handle-passes on the wakeboard I would get out on a disc (big circular board of plywood that you just stand on) and just spin, spin, spin, both ways, all the way round the cable park. This really helps you nail that particular part of the movement.

RIP cables so I'd recommend spending a bit of time on disc behind a skiboat if you can. I'm only learning so I have no idea how this relates to handle-passes doing inverts etc but having the basic handle-pass movement automatic must be key part!

thanks guys, I have pretty much dialed surface passes, and I have the strength to pull up, just not fast enough yet.
I was watching my legs go up and having looked at the footage again, I wasn't fully extending, so that looks like it could be the problem.
I have just tried ordering a J.A.T.O unit, but there wont be any in stock till August unfortunatly. But, they have posted me a complimentary DIY instruction booklet on jet packs, so if looking back fails I will give that a shot.

James

PS congo abrezio, Are you trying to hint at something there?

For where your up to,
I recon you need to do a spaz like someone poked you in the ass right at the pinnacle of your jump.
Sounds strange but it will work for you to catch the bar the first few times until the muscle memory kicks in.

I rekon if someone poked me in the arse i would turn around and punch them in the face, but thats probably not what you meant hey. I think I get the idea though and will give it a shot.

Thanks, james
