WAKSA has a pretty good location guide at www.waksa.org.au. Safety Bay is possibly the best within a 50km radius for beginners (my personal opinion). Next ones on my hit list would be Pinnaroo Point and perhaps Leightons. I don't kite on the river so don't know if anything there is any good for learning, though I've heard things...

Come to Lucky Bay Melville if you are new to the sport as it is very good for beginners because it is shallow for so far out...........but please read the local rules on the WAKSA web site before you rock up and ask the "experienced" kiters most upwind of the big white gum tree.

I'm often there wearing kooky cloths like hat and gloves, there is even a picture of me on the bench having a fag.

You ARE back...omg, hope you are well Brad and sounds like you are once again fully recovered from past injury.

Now why wouldn't you want these lovely visitors to come to your beautiful spot? Not getting crowded down there, now is it?

Take care buddy and be sane.

What ever you do -do not hang in perth

you have a campervan - use it! GO NORTH - pays huge dividends at this time of year-

even a couple of hours makes a huge diff - lanno can get literally triple the no. (compared to perth) of kite able days in march and especially feb

Avoid the river like the plague - if it does get a breeze (usually 5 knots less than the coast- and some times no breeze at all when the seabreeze is windy on the coast-if they even get decent seabreezes on the coast at this time of year) its often gusty - and no one likes walking around in mud.

green head will probably have wind EVERY DAY! (barring a cyclone)

gerro can be good right into may if you are lucky

If it goes hot and east - Nor east - BOLT for the south coast (Denmark, Albany, esperance-where it will be 15 - 25knots (hope you have some small kites)

you will find some open areas great for learning in all the above mentioned areas.

Perth is pretty much done and dusted for the season

hang in perth and you just may spend a week on the beach not doing any kiting

Not quite sure I totally agree with that, have a look at the current forecast. It looks pretty damn good after Friday.

Cheers,

Do you read the newspaper? Well I was reading it, and it’s interesting cause what it says is that you don’t know what the **** you’re talking about.

Why are you walking in the river? I tend to kitesurf when I'm there, not wade around in the water, which btw is not mud

Woodies is definately NOT epic for beginners.
The 'epic' side (beach 3) is direct offshore so is totally no-go for any beginner. Basic no.1 rule of kiting isnt it . Unsuitable and dangerous.
Beach 2 is narrow, choppy, drops off quite quickly and is dead on-shore on the seabreeze. It is also the windsurfers area and should be frequented as little as possible by kiters and then only by kiters who can (and do) give full lee-way to the poleys.
Beach 1 is OK if you are under instruction but its also pretty much onshore so there are heaps of better places to hone your skills once you are past learner stage.
