Yeah you should ride them back to back along with all the other rebel riders and see why it is pointless riding a kite with 5 lines these days

And they claim it to be a great wave kite, roll it in good surf and see what the pointless 5th line does.

Two kites aimed at totally different riders and styles, you might need to think more about what you wan't your kite for before looking for comparisons.

kites are grouped together by their shape not by how many lines they have. some kites of the same shape can have 5 or 4 lines such as fuels and torches.

Last years rebel is a good kite with nothing wrong with it...but it could have some more speed and zing to it, the 9m I flew felt spongy and empty for its size. ...didnt fly the havoc. I have rolled the rebel before with 5 lines it comes up straight allot of the time...I think because its 3 lines split further up towards the kite. I ride 4 lines atm, and the safety isnt as good as the 5th line. The north bar and safety is one of the best I have used.
I have seen the havoc being used it looks better for surfing than it ever has, but if you want a surf kite out of those two then the Rebel...This years could be interesting try the evo also.
Best surf kite of 2010(that i flew) was the 6m Airush Lithium.

Choose 4 lines over 5 is always my recommendation, for someone starting or not from the C kite era. One less line, one less thing that could go wrong.

The Havoc has improved heaps over the years. It is so successful LF has decided to keep refining it, and this year we see the 5th generation in production. I only have one simple word to describe the 2011 Havoc - "SMOOTH".

Depends on your level, you may also like to try the LF Envy. It is the most versatile kite I have ever ridden. Turns extremely responsive. I use it on water, land and snow.

The Rebel will however have a bigger wind range and 5th line safety is still more reliable when it all goes south on a nasty day.
If you like the Rebel but still want 4 line then go the Fuse.

The Havoc has as good wind range as the Rebel. It will also get you going earlier, as it has better lower end power. The Havoc has 100% depower and as safe as any other kites in the market. 5 years I have been selling this kite and I have not had one single customer involved in a situation (touchwood).

The Rebel is a nice kite too dont get me wrong. Quite smooth and easy to fly. Try both (and as many others as you can for the purpose) till you find one that you feel comfortable with.

As for 5 lines kites, imagine if your kite rolls over like in the surf, the 5th line wraps around it and the next set hits, what is going to happen? I have seen it too many times, the 5th line pulls and tears the kite right down the middle.

The 2011 Havoc isnt really a Havoc at all.. It actually turns smoothly and quite quick. it feels alot more responsive and faster than any Havoc i have ever ridden. Aswell as the kite flying well when its fully sheeted in like all havocs do... It also flys well sheeted out. still turns fast, and the feeling through the bar remains responsive. Id rate it slightly better in turning speed and all around responsiveness and feeling through the bar than the 2009 Envy.

You can't be serious.
As stated the Rebel has more depower period.
Now that you mention it more bottom end too.

You have seen this when? We are the repair specialist in Brisbane and I haven't had to repair a Rebel from 5th line damage.

Lets stick to the facts gents. Enjoy the vids

Any time you get two retailers involved in a discussion on products it's going to go nowhere.

The short and sweet is they are both very good kites, they both have very good range and I doubt one is going to have a noticeably bigger range than the other. One may have more bottom end and the other will probably have more top end.

The only solution is to test them yourself. I've tried both kites, but only in the 2010 models and I would have been equally happy with both. They are both damn nice kites. The people I know with Rebels are happy and the people I know with Havocs are also happy. That says you'll probably be happy with whatever you buy.

...and on a separate note, I have seen a kite ripped in two by the 5th line so it does happen, but I've only ever seen it once so the likelihood of it affecting you is pretty low.

Jaysus!

What's with this 5th line ripping the kite story? It was all over hyped way back in the first 5th line kites where they were directly connected to the centre of the Leading Edge. Ever since the V-bridle at the leading edge, there hasn't really been kites damaged from 5th lines.

I have not seen any kite damaged from 5th line since about 2003. Keep it real fellas!

As Jason says, buy a Fuse if you want a 4 line Rebel.

Hi I have had 2008 Rebels and 2010 Rebels 9m and 7m. I have not had any 5th line cut the kite in two.But I have had 2010 9m floating strut ripped off twise now by the 5th line. Both times in the surf with the kite down in the surf.

So the kite you sell is the best isn't it.

Have a look around. North 5th line is a disaster to untangle and get out on the water fast. The bar Is also very heavy of you like to travel.

IV HAD THE FIFTH LINE CUT MY KITE IN HALF TWICE! Don't believe the hype it can happen if your out in the surf and the kite gets worked.

Seen alot of LF kites that just end up look g like a baggy ass peice of junk quick, the material Is not that great. Good luck but.

Now have the new bandit and four line is way better and still safe just not as easy to deposed like the reble
