hi there, the spreader bar did ride up into my ribs and caused some damage to the cartilage. after two weeks went out kiting , but midflight during a backroll it snapped again. ..is there anybody out there who suffered rib injuries and how long did it take to fully recover and rip it hard again??

thanks

I fractured my ribs falling face first while snowboarding in Switzerland. Took around 4 weeks all up and there is no relief. I suggest you reach for the pain killers and try not to cough! Good luck.

Might need to change harness, Im not saying your brand of harness is crap but probably doesnt suit you. Had the same issue.
Untill the ribs fix fully PROPERLY, you might consider buying a cheap seat harness until the pain goes away.
Try demoing all your kiting buddies' harnesses as a dry one in the shop doesnt fit like a wet one with compressed foamy bits.

Years ago in my poley days had a mate who was intent on using a chest harness to gain “Wave Sailor” status. After a period on the water, with no energy he collapsed on the beach. Following a trip to the hospital in an ambulance turned out he had a collapsed lung from the harness compressing his chest too much.

billtotal i got slammed on a shallow sand bank surfing 3 weeks ago and I''m still not right, coughing sneezing shear pain'' . anti inflammatory do help a great deal. Tried to sneak a short downwinder from Pergian Beach to home the other afternoon and it killed , had to toeside most of the way to relieve the pressure of the harness on my ribs . I guess i was a bit keen , the wind has been up, and has been driving me crazy .Maybe another week

temporary living in hervey bay the next proper kiteshop is 300 k`s down south, i think i will give it a go after easter and check out some gear when wet. in the meantime i meditate over the case ( my rib and not going near the beach)and take it easy whilst you guys have fun kiting.

I also have to surf with a bit of spong foam down front of my wetsuit on that part of rib!Its like rolling on a golf ball when you paddle a mate had the same thing but had the op! same pain again after op.
Sleeped on the floor for 3 weeks it hurt to much to roll around a bed, better now but that was 2 years ago ......heavy uck it hurt.

I'm the same as RFW - surfing now is like paddling around with a marble between you and your board.
I was out of the water for 4 weeks, then used a seat for about 8 weeks to get it back somewhere normal - but it's still pretty rooted.

Dakine Nitrous shorts are pretty cool. Wear them on the water and then drive home with them still on. Ion Stealth looks like a similar design too.
