The only method is with your feet.................
Do a search for kiteboardleash and you will soon see that body dragging will do wonders both to your pocket in lost boards and your face by keeping you pretty for years to come.....
Only time to attach a board is where tidal rip is upwind - most of the rest of the time - all of the leash thingos will possibly cave in the back of your head or smash your teeth in - body dragging is the way to go! ( ok so maybe a leg rope on a surfboard is almost OK if the surf breaks on rocks.....)
Used a retractable leash for the first three months of my intro into kitesurfing. Then the leash snapped during a jump. Realised the possible danger in having the board slingshot back in direction of my head/body. No more leash. Body drag. So far no lost board...but it is going to happen. Just a matter of time. Make sure you write your contact number on your board. There is a better than average chance your board will get returned.
wake boots at shearwater the out tide has claim many boards and now i find myself doing stuff further out there difficult\scarey , but less body dragging .
Donutcop: Hey Robocop, awesome day for kiteboarding! Those westerlies are a bit chilley hey. What are you putting up?
Robocop: Its already 14kts so I'm just putting up my 9m. It's new and has awesome depower and pulls like a twelve. I don't want to get overpowered either.
Donutcop: Nice PFD, skywalker helmet, seat harness, camel pak, booties, gloves, goggles, and iPhone case, oh and nice real leash! Robocop: Yeah you gotta look the part. Got it all from some white bearded hippie that was skating in the carpark last week. Got a bargain and had my first lesson on the landboard.
Donutcop: Only one lesson?
Robocop: Yeah I think that's all I need. I surf and used to sail yachts so I know how the wind works. Plus I can fly the kite now.
Donutcop: That's extreme Robocop! I hope I can get up and going today. I got this new 155cm board cause I lost my old board last week. It should be enough for my 200 pies ha ha! I stuck this old surf board leash on so I don't loose this one.
If you realy want to use a leash attach a dozen or so small cable ties to your harness ring use 1 others are spares for your session. Some leashes can remove the Velco Ankle pad. Attach this to a cable tie and on a big fall the cable tie will break no board coming at ya. Small board off's and the the board will be secure grab it an keep going, but you will still have to learn to body drag!!
