we are going to put in a slider at our local beach. Council would consider a trial period but a few things need to be sorted first.
There needs to be a written application detailing a safety plan, slider description, and details of other sliders in use and how insurance issues have been sorted.

Does anyone out there have experience with sliders and are there any in operation that actually have official approval? If there is I would like to have a chat with the crew that put it together. Gold City Council may even be prepared to allow a permanent one if a trail period goes well, but it will need an example of slider elsewhere and the way liabilty issues have been handled.

It has been suggested that a safety plan would include provision for an observer to be on duty when the slider is being used. Some sort of plan should be in place to prevent people from using it that do not have the skill (or are accident prone.. yea very funny ha ha but i will want a turn if it goes in. Lets just say my kite surfing learning experience has not been as smooth as some).

Also needed is details of possible interactions with the public. It may seem like a bit of a paper chase, but it could be well worth it and it opens the door to some interesting possiblities

Probably no help but we had the water police look at our slider when it was set up and they didn´t say anything, it was in shallow water though, so no boats would´ve been able to reach it. We move ours out when we finish with them too.
Good luck with your approval anyway, it would be nice if everyone was keen and you had a permanent slider/kicker park to muck around in!!

Too much hassle and leave's you open for too much CRAP from the council & local residents...

My self and BESTkiteboarding purchased a 30 foot inflatable one from USA, that blows up and can be operational in 30 minutes...

regards browneee

ps, do a search on this forum for the slider threads...

I would only let people you know and trust use them.

Kitepower also bought 2 of these inflatable sliders. They are both 30ft in length, fully inflatable with PVC pipe across the top. The material that they are made of is very similar to a Zodiac boat. Being inflatable it minimize's the risk of smashing yourself up too much.
Gotta remember NO FINS
Dolls Point can be a bit crowded to use it but Kurnell would be perfect. Ay Jeff.

Kurnell´s been flatout Matt, we´ve been having massive crowds here the past few weeks. We´ve got alot of people who aren´t into the whole slider thing that we need to keep happy, and this means heading off to our own little spot down the end with our slider tucked up a few metres from the beach. I´d be more than happy to throw your slider into the mix down there though Matt, and we´ve got a little kicker now too so we can make our own mini park. Maybe we should look into getting some kind of deal like Richo is looking into though, and I´m sure being an AKSA member would probably help somehow? I´ve got no idea? How have you gone so far Richo? Maybe you could set the standard for the rest of us?
