hey! i was doing a downwinder from currimundi lake to kawana when about half way down i saw a slingshot rev floating in the water by itself about 100m out. i was trying to figure out a way to get it to shore but i didnt want to go near the lines so i tryed grabing the chicken loop but could not get enough power to pull it. i then tryed grabing the leading edge but it was to hard for me to flip it upside down with 1 hand so i went back to shore and landed my kite and was thinking of paddleing out with my board and doing a self rescue with it when a boat came and picked it up but just wondering what should i do if the situation was to happen again. their were hardly any waves and the wind was blowing side shore at about 10 knots and i keep a line knife in my pocket otherwise i wouldnt of wanted to go near the thing. also just wondering whos the kite was and if they are ok?

i usualy kite at woodys where it blows offshore and the frestyle nuts loose thier kites often. i have had to rescued my share of stray kites and i can say it is a very hard and dangerous thing to do and should not be attempted even by intermediate kiters and for the sake of the silent noobs that read this fourm i dont realy want to go into the best way to do it but i will say one thing NEVER grab the lines!! dont even go near them. also in 10 knots its prob not going to be possible to ride very far if at all with the kite due to the extra drag of the canopy on the water and you are more likely to get wrapped up in it. if you realy want to know the best way to rescue a stray kite out on the water i think you are better off speaking directly to someone that has had to do it a few times rather than reading about it on a forum

it might feel bad not doing anything to help your buddy out by saveing his kite but just think how bad both of you will feel if you get badly hurt doing it.

was there no chance of a self rescue pack up and swim in?
