Never been there, but knowing the PNG trade winds it might be OK during that time. It is getting a little north so might be more fickle than further south, but it has the right aspect to catch the SE.

Send an email to the wilderness resort there and ask them, they will know....

If you want the ultimate location at that time, have a look on GE about 500km SW of Gatokae, the last island in SE PNG, Rossel Island - then check out the lagoon and island on the SE tip of that....kiting heaven and will blow like buggery may to october.

a little birdy tells me there is a pro shoot happening there this year, JayP has the low down on it - and can organise charter trips there...

Pretty isolated, get there by boat only, so you would need to get a crew and charter a live aboard.

There would be waves, but not huge.

lol - Port Moresby itself cranks in the winter trade winds. Expect 20-30kts a majority of days from May to October. Reef wave kiting with flat lagoons in the inside. There are some insane spots there and my avatar shot was taken at Port Moresby. Unfortunately I am now based back in BNE so I will be pining for it for the next 6 months . Waves are not tahiti standard but you get some good base wind swells coming through.

JayP (seabreeze handle) is the local kite, surfing (and anything adventure) guru and one of the forces behind the site you posted. he will help anyone who wants to do a kite trip up there. The photos on that site don't have any of waves because we can never get a camera near the outer reef....

Mr Float, I just got back from the solomons last week after being there for a month. I was on the main island.
I'll give you a tip, I wouldn't go there for kiting. I reckon there was enough wind over probably a week.
Maybe one of the outer islands would be ok, I have heard that there is good wind and swell, but I would keep clear of the main island.
Even when there's no wind there is not much for a tourist to do although there is some great diving off of the wrecks.
I personally think you could find better places to go

i went to solomons last july. we stayed at uepi and wilderness and got some great waves for a couple of days- about 4 foot no one out and really fun. also went free diving with about 30 sharks at uepi( ranging from 1.5-2.5m)- which you have to do if you go to the solomons. it is an incredible place there was wind a couple of days when we were there, we had kites but we only had surfboards not twin tips and were in big lagoons on the windy days so we went fishing instead but it is definately worth taking kiting gear and is probally the most perfect setup if it all comes together with wind and waves or flat water lagoons and islands everywhere. kbm did a story on it about 6-9months ago and there were aheap of contacts of places to stay. enjoy
