hello,
i would like to get new kites but i am a little confused with the sizes i should get.

would it be worth buying a 8 and 11 sonic or are they too close ?

maybe the rebel 7 and 12 would do better.

i am 70 kg.

thanks

I have a 14mt Sonic and I can ride it from 12knts - 30knts (15-20knts prefered)on an airush exile 135x47 and Im 75-80kgs.

I dont know about the rebel but the sonic has great range. I know guys that are your weight with an 11mtr Sonic and 2 boards.

Good luck with your decision

hello,

the fact that the north is a mix seems better to me and also that you do not need a special bar for it.

how is the 14 sonic ? the shop here told me not to bother because it is not good for a big kite.

is the 8 better than the 11 ?

thanks

I like the 14 sonic! I am not a shop or a pro so its up to you what advice you take. The 11mtr sonic is meant to be the best of all the sizes. I havent tried it so I dont know.

Construction on the sonics is not very good. But for me it flies fantastic and it is very responsive because it uses non pulley bar. The Rebel is much better in make quality, I think it is also much more expensive. Fly both and make up your mind that way. All the best

the new rebel is quite cheap compare to the vegas or last year prices.
if you take it without bar, the 7 is around aud 1000.--
and the 12 1200.-- (european price of course)
maybe north understand that kites are too expensive because the market
is very bad for second hand.

14 sonic is pretty sick for a big kite.

It will actually throw you up high not like the 16m crossbow which will lift u 2 foot off the water

Super stable.

a little slow for a 14, but nothing short of a 18m+ c kite will touch it.

11 and 8 are mad also. Go second hand or wait a while like tobes says.

It depends on what kind of conditions you're expecting. I weigh 70kg and spent last season on an 11m sonic. There weren't too many days that were kiteable that I couldn't have ridden the 11. The wind range is excellent and once you learn how to fly the kite differently to a C kite you can get even more range out of it.
If I were buying another kite I'd go for the 8 instead of the 14. Somewhere above 25kts the 11m becomes a little too much. Its still flies fine but I know that its too much kite to have up in that weather. I'd really like to get another kite that could see me get up to over 30kts and down to high teens. Based on my experience with the 11m I think the sonic 8 could probably do that.

I've had no problems with the build quality of the sonic.

I can't comment on the rebels as I've never even seen one.

Buying second hand will save plenty of dosh and I would have done it except that when I bought mine (Nov 2005) there weren't any on the market!

I weigh 80kg and I use a Sonic 11 and 2 boards to kite in all conditions.

I will probably buy a Sonic 8 (or equivalent) to be more comfortable in blasting winds. The Sonic 11 gets a bit wobbley to be comfortable in winds above 30 knots.

I currently ride quite comfortably powered with a wide/flat board when my mates have their 16m Xbows up. Just cruising and the odd pop.

I am about to try the Sonic 11 with line extensions to see if it extends the bottom end a little. If it works well then I would not bother getting a larger kite. If not I would think about a Sonic 17 when that comes out in September/October.

I'm a little prejudiced against the Rebel. Ken Winner made a right dick of himself when flat kites came out then went straight out and built a flat kite with 5 lines.

mate if he went straight out and built a flat kite with 5 lines, dont you reckon he would have released it in 2005 after the crossbow like with all the other companies did each with their own contribution to the pattern?
Are your morals that high that you would look past a quality kite because some bloke who you're (probaly) never met said he wouldn't build a bow kite??

Nup. He was too busy telling the whole world how the whole flat kite idea was fundamentally flawed and would never work.

It's got nothing to do with morals. I don't like 5 line systems because I think they are too complicated and the other flat kites work so well. The Sonic in particular works extremely well and is way cheaper than the name brands like North, Slingshot, Cabrinha etc.
