G'day,
Just wondering where are some good flat water places nearish Sydney. I just want to try somewhere else that isn't botany bay :)
I plan to make a weekend of it (I'm pissed that australia day doesn't make a long weekend!) so am happy to travel anywhere (with good wind!) up to about 3-4 hours drive from Sydney I guess. A place to camp would be good too. I know there are some decent lakes up north and have once had a quick session somewhere near Avoca but it was really gusty and I didn't have a very good launching spot... I only have a 14m too.
Cheers

Its only about 2.5 hours North to Hawks Nest. You cant get much better than that !

I do like Jimmies at Hawksnest but even like the lake at Culburra south of Sydney more. In a NE or N it is heaven. About 2 hour drive from Sydney Centre. Go to Nowra and then turn left and drive to the coast.

Normal summer NE seabreeze works well. Southerly & SW also. No good in NW. On the lake NE is offshore but it is shallow for a long way so you can stand up if needed. Not as smelly or weedy as Entrance or lakes regions up North.

it is listed on kitebeaches.com

Hey,
I'm new to the sport and im looking for good spots for intermediate riders on the North Side of Sydney. Any suggestions?? and what is the story with Narrabeen Lakes. Is kiting not allowed or is it the conditions? I remember it being gusty from my junior sailing days. Thanks

Whats wrong with Narrabeen lakes? you mean besides being dirty and muddy with bush all along the shore with no place to launch or land? Well heck nothing wrong with it. Good rule of thumb, If you have never seen any kites flying in a flatwater spot near sydney, then there is a reason. [}:)]

Try Umina beach (S/SE), Killcare (same), and the Entrance (Any direction). Not crowded, an hour away from sydney (North). Pethora of waves and flat water spots.
Cheers,
Fab
