i have a situation and its kind of grinding my gears.

sand sticking to my kite....

when its not wet,
when the sands dry,
when the kite has not touched the water for hours,
when everyone else seems to be able to pack up literally or just about literally, sand free.

but i bring home just about a buckets worth of sand stuck to my kite almost every session, well... a small buckets worth, but with coastal erosion being the way it is, if this keeps up, i fear i may not have a beach to kite at by the end of the season...

static is the first thing that comes to mind

any thoughts, ideas or similar circumstances...?

moisture in air makes the material slightly damp? thats what i thought alongside the static idea...

i brush the sand AWAY from the kite not into it when i pack up

sea spray and humidity. go to the beach in a strong onshore wind at night and watch the amount of mist blowing past street lamps...heaps. compare the amount of sand sticking to your 12m after a light wind session to a powered up 9m session. assuming the huimidity was the same I bet the 9m gets heaps more.

To get rid of the sand you might try rolling up your kite, each wing tip to the centre, and then stand it up on the trailing edge. Give it a bit of a tap to loosen any sand. A lot of the sand will fall out of the now kite tube. You can then fold it up and put it into the bag, relatively sand free. This works for me.

I had the same thing then noticed that the sand free guys had newer kites than me - as the kite gets older, more moisture stick to it and hence more sand.

Wash kite in fresh water and dry completely maybe twice a year.

If your kite takes a swim in the ocean and then dries out, the salt sticks to the kite and continually pulls moisture out of the humid coastal air.

I often roll up my kite on the beach with the struts pumped up against my body and not on the sand. Then when I get to the grass out of the wind unroll the kite and pack up or put in the car with struts pumped up if I'm going out the next day.

They are not called " CATS EYES" they are called "User Penises" because his missus' always complains about him sticking in only half a centimeter.

Yeh I have this problem, when I crash into the water my wet suit gets really wet and the only way to dry it is to hang it up on the clothes line, pain in the butttt.
That`s why I don`t go fishing anymore, always smell of fish after.
