Recently had the stopper on my Naish centre line tangle with the outside line when doing a beach self launch

Its a 4 line setup and the stopper is about 6 metres along one of the centre lines -the one attached to the safety leash

Anyone have ideas how to prevent this tangle - ?different stopper - current one is a small red ball

thanks

Leave the ball, just doublecheck your lines before launching, OR get your mate to hook in and take the kite off him once in the air

yeah thats a good idea, but he said a self launch.

ive got the same system on my X3 mate,
just make sure you have the kite fully depowered when launching, or get a suicide leash as the other dude said.

Better still, just take the ball off.
The sky will not fall down if you do this.
And nor will you chance of a tangle free relaunch decrease.

The ball is there to supposedly stop the bar travelling all the way to the kite when you deploy the chicken loop safety release.

Sure it doe do that, BUT most times you deploy the safety, the bar will fling up and go through your other lines so you cannot relaunch anyway.

If you deploy the safety, then make sure you need to and that you can do a water pack down and self rescue back to shore.

Take the ball off, problem solved, and self launching is a lot safer then.

Thanks heaps for all of your comments

Steve - like your idea - as you say after using the safety leash its usually too tangled to relaunch

I don't go out too far from shore so it fits in well with the way I kite

Really appreciated

Hi,

Yeah I used to find this stopper a bit of a hassle on my four line set-up (with a SS stopper ball). Mainly a hassle on dropping the kite/BnLines.

I'd say (from over here in left field) that you should look at the option of converting your kite/BnLines to 5th line.

It's not as exxy as you'd think (should be less than $100 all up for a new 5th line and your kite resewn).

The bonus is a safer ride, better relaunch and far, far less tangles (in my exp) when dumping the bar n lines as there is usually no 'death spiral' as the kite comes down.

BTW I still use the stopper ball on my 5th line but I've never had it get in the way when self launching. It did pick up about 5-10kgs of weed in 27+kts at Pinnaroo recently... but that is another long story lacking any glamour...

Avagoodun.
