I know this topic pops up about every few months.
but I could not find what I was looking for..
Like many others. I'm looking at making my own bombproof suicide leash..
I already have the caribina (sp?) and an O ring for my harness.
My harness has a built in qr, so dont need a qr on the leash...

Basically I'm just looking for the right material...
Needs to be strechy and super stong.. Is there any way you can buy the stuff kitesurf leashes are made out of or is that too much to ask?

How strong are windsurfing uphauls? I know some people use those...
but they wouldn't need to be too strong to just pick up a windsurf sail sooo???

Anyway i'm open to any materials that I can easily elasticize...
cheers

just buy a quality kite brand leash. I heard Naish and NEW are very good, but I'm sure there are other quality ones around

Hey mate,
respect that you don't want to use a brand name. I was lookin at putting together my own but then picked up a NEW kite (www.newkiteboarding.com) and the leash it came with is long enough to unwrap over your head and hasn't failed on me yet!

buy some 8mm shock cord, then go to a rock climbing shop or a chandler and buy some protective sleeve for rope. cut the sleeve as long as you want it to stretch, then thread the shock cord inside the sleeve. sew loops in each end for your clips. tie some knots in it for grip for when you drop the bar. done

Hi Unchained.
I made one I made very simply with 1.5 meters of ski rope, simply splice a loop at each end around a SS clip. If your not very good at splicing ropes, they should be able to help you at your local boat chandlers. It only costs a couple of dollars and is bulletproof, it does jerk a little bit more on the harness, than an elasticated one when you let go , but I've never had any problems with it.
