hi ive been trying surface handle passes for a little while now( 3 or 4 sesh's) but need some advice/help.
im getting through the pass fine but as soon as i spin back around and get my upper hand back on the bar to send the kite up, but by this time the kites dived and hit the water.
but the weird thing is a little while back i had no problems with this and was doing 3-4 in a row without a stuff up.
i alwas start with my kite pretty low and when i get unhooked on toeside i send the kite up so its pointing at a high angle, i then grab the middle of the bar and pass it around, i grab the bar again as close as i can to the middle and spin my feet around as fast as i can but im always to late, does anyone no why??

any help would be much appreciated

cheers, Leo

sounds like you are not spining fast enough . why do you want to start with the kite so low . instead of trying to stop the kite hitting the water trun it in to kite loop . i to have just learnt to do them . and although i never had a probem with it hitting the water i just find it alot easier to loop it at the same time .

Don't move the kite at all, park it, leave your hand in the middle(split the chicken loop line) while passing the bar to prevent any further steering of the kite. As soon as you pass the bar get the first hand back on to the bar as soon as possible to stop any further unwanted steering. Plus I usually do surface passes as soon as I land a trick such as a railey, so when you land you are heading downwind a bit, taking the pressure off the lines and then pass the bar. The slack in the lines prevents any unwanted steering. Complete the pass heading back upwind.

I've been doing (well every now and then, and more then than now, I can tell you) flat 3's and when I pass the bar I sometimes pass the bar and get it right on the end instead of the middle, sending it into a kiteloop, that aint fun I can tell you, especially if I catch an edge on landing. I swear my right arm is now longer than my left.
