Why do you have to choose between one of those? Find something to do outside of a city.

Traffic in Brisbane (on the few occaisons that I go there) is crazy. Not too bad in the city itself, its when you get on the motorway that you stop. I think you'd have to finish work at 4pm minimum to get a kite after work - and that would probably only be in summer. Someone who works in Brisbane CBD may be able to shed some more light on this.

People are nice in Brisbane
Sydney has cleaner water (just dont drink the drinking water )
Brisbane has less traffic
Syndey is more expensive to live... particularly if you are doing a lot of driving
Brisbane has better wind
Syndey has better beaches
If you are prepared to drive 1.5hrs on a weekend then Brisbane has better beaches
Brisbane has warmer water
Sydney has better mountains and hiking
Syndey has better surf

I think brisbane that levels score at 5 vs 5...

You would kite more in Brisbane due to more wind, better directions and less gusty. Sydney tends to get more offshore gusty winds due to the headlands and the mountains to the south and west and the steep rocky headlands. The northerly winds bring in the bluebottles.

If you are just as happy to go out surfing then Sydney is the far better location for after and before work surfs (if you can handle crowds that is)

Both cities have too many jellyfish.

You would need to have a fairly flexible work arrangement to kite after work in Brisbane. You really need to be out the office at about 3 to get a decent kite in after work. Anytime later and you will be battling through the traffic so its not really worth the effort.

On weekends I think you probably have more options north, south and around Brisbane, so long as you are willing to travel.

You will eventually want to get to the coast, like me. I have removalist at my house today - moving north to the Sunshine Coast

After work kiting, if working in Bris CBD is very difficult. Remember we dont have daylight savings here so even in mid summer it gets dark relatively early. Throw in the afternoon / evening stroms and it becomes rare to make it to the beach after work.

They put the city in the wrong spot, a couple of km further towards the sea and all would be better!

Traffic in both cities suck, Sydney cause there is so much, Bris cause noone here knows how to merge etc. Neither have very well planned roads either!

I live in Sydney, so can only comment on that.

I kited after work every day there was wind in the season (probably 30-45%). Mind you I finish at 3.30 and work at the airport which is close to Botany.

I know people finished at 5 pm in the city and still got time for a short session after work, so if your working these hours it is possible.

Can't comment on Brisbane, but from what I have read if your work is flexible it is better.....

no daylight saving in Brisbane ...............pain in the rrSyS. Gets dark early and the traffic is worse than Sydney on the main routes.( I have lived in both cities and feeel qualified to comment, you could get to brighton quicker in Sydney)
Queensland government to gutless to introduce daylight saving. I think there are stil lhalf a dozen farmers still on the land up in north queensland that object. Full of themselves regarding earth day when we turn the lights off fo 1 hour........imagine the energy savings and carbon reduction associated with daylight savings .....it would be like earth day every day of summer. I live right on the beach but still have to leave work early to get a decent kite in. If we had daylight saving Brisy would be great............lets start a lobby group for daylight savings in Brisbaine!!!!!!

rusty, I nearly get beaten up everytime I suggest Qld needs daylight savings. I really dont know what people think the benefit is in not having daylight savings. I have heard some crackers though;

the kids will get skin cancer
the milk will go off before it gets to the shops
they will need airconditioning in all the school buses

the list just goes on...

The two cities that let you kite the CBD, or close to it, would be Perth and Melbourne. Pretty cool if you work in Melbourne CBD you can catch a tram and be on the water in 30 min.

You can't beat WA though for consistency of wind though. Be prepared to buy smaller kites!

Heard a corker about daylight saving,

"It would disrupt the public transport system, the 7 o clock bus struggles to get there on time as is. changing the clocks would only make run an hour later"

Not sh*^ing you I read that in the courier mail about 9 months ago.

Ive got some mates who just change their clock anyway.

cant agree more queensland needs to get its head out of its arse!!!!!!!!!!
