Ok I'd like to pose the question to all Breezers!

How the hell are we supposed to give our side(the real users) side ....and tell manufacturers of the needs and wants of kiters?

As far a I can tell, there are very few tests done...

and tested by ppl who have a vested interest in saying "yes dear" or getting a product onto the shelves well before they should.

how long have there been kites?.....then why the hell can they even get the bar and line system perfected?

Let alone a stupidly easy thing like a harness!

i agree fully here stabber...

the best line is when u get asked to try something n give critisizm on pros n cons then when u tell them the cons they have reasons for it all prepared like its ur technique n bla bla bla bla

i get how fuels n such kites are made from the specs of the pros because thats the type of market they are aiming at, people who want solid performance for freestyle etc.. but with freeride kites like rebels octanes seagulls and such they should really give the average riders a bit of a open panel to put suggestions into instead of just ignoring what they got to say, because at end of the day its those average punters that will b payin for those kites

i was talking to a mate the other day about the so called "R D " of products by kiters, surfers, mountainbikers, blah, blah,,,why don't the manufacturers get equipment tested by people that can't put their foot in the right place and can't quite rip that kiteloop and land smooothly!! most punters that buy the gear arent black belts in fumanchu......the point is i think that some of the gear needs tolerence, not everbody needs stuff that is shaved to the inth degree,we would prefer our million dollar stuff to at least last a season of copping it !!!!!

Trouble is, most people think they're black belts in Fu Man Chu after a year or so. Hence gear is made to be tolerant, then marketed like it's designed for Chuck Norris.

Gear's been getting more user friendly every year in my opinion.

planned obsolescence

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence

"Planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence[1] is the process of a product becoming obsolete and/or non-functional after a certain period or amount of use in a way that is planned or designed by the manufacturer.[1] Planned obsolescence has potential benefits for a producer because the product fails and the consumer is under pressure to purchase again, whether from the same manufacturer (a replacement part or a newer model), or from a competitor which might also rely on planned obsolescence. [1] The purpose of planned obsolescence is to hide the real cost per use from the consumer, and charge a higher price than they would otherwise be willing to pay (or would be unwilling to spend all at once)."

I agree totally with you trant....gear is much better than 10 years ago....
BUT...
certain stupid little stuffups like the ends of the new IDS bar, that don't even hold the strings in properly!...the old bar did....why change it?

And the clip on my new mystic harness that a person would have to be superman to undo!.....and I'm no Superman!(unless you're referring to the bedroom)....the old system was fine.

Fair point Stabber

I know a Queensland importer who regularly feeds information back to manufacturers. This feedback comes directly from the customer via the dealer network.

As for changes in design to bars etc the whole industry seems to be in an ever decreasing spiral of constant 'improvement'. Year after year manufacturers have to release the NEW AND IMPROVED model just to keep market edge, even though there was bu**er all wrong with the previous model. How many times do we hear that version 2 was not as good as version 1 of a kite?

the old Mystic system was fine.

The 2010 bar ends are stiffer than the 2090 bars ends, they took that on board.
They wanted soft ends because pros and joes were smaking themselves in the head and face with the bar ends.
If your bar ends have been bent in from winding lines on too tight, wind them on the other side of the bar, fixes the issue.

Cabrinha, Ozone, Best all ask for feedback regularly, and change what they get widespread feedback about. They are just 3 brands that I know have asked, Cab do it at the end of eash season with each dealer.

The old mystic warrior 1 clips came undone when you rode toeside, loosen the belts on the clip side a bit and its easy to undo or tie a bit of line around the red clip thing and pull it to release makes it really easy.

I as worried about the 2010 bar after demoing the 2009 bar. All the bars I tried the ends had collapsed and there was nothing substantial to hold the lines in place.

So far the new bar is excellent. I hate hate hate having messy lines and stuff but it all works really well. I think you just have to take care not to crush the "horns" on the end, and that hasn't been a problem so far.

OK, thats a fair enough explaination for the change.

I saw the new spreader bar release thing last year on the mystic and thought: "why change, last years worked fine. Plus the stainless clip has no moving parts"

Personally I reckon the old system was heaps better. If it came unclipped riding toeside, then turn the clip around like Dakine have it (it is harder to clip to the spreader tho)

Keep at em stabber, they might listen. I bitched and moaned about the slingshot leash for years with that stupid pull type release. Its great to see the change finally.

However I dont expect Naish to listen and change their flawed Octopuss system in a hurry tho

sheiitt if ur bar bends from winding lines too tight your either a)superman or b) that bar is made of jelly... if it bends from just winding lines i dont want to see what happens when it has the force of the kite applied to it

I lost the clip off my harness, best thing ever. Crikey it takes about 15secs to thread the strap and do it up nice, especially good after stopping for a pie and beer mid session and/or dumping a load in the dunes [}:)]

Good point Stabs I've often wondered myself the total lack of R & D with some kite companies Cabrinha in particular. Sorting out the simplest of tasks seems an impossibility, has there ever been another company which is so behind in resolving simple things like pulleys breaking, untested ids lines / systems only to upgrade to the previous years ?? You don't have to be clever to resolve these issues .

I often wonder if it's their agenda to hold back on development so they have an improvement for the new years model?

Most improvements in kite performance seem to compromise some other performance aspect from my negative view point. my 09 waroos seem to have lees bottom end than my 08's but much better top end. I want my 13 to have better bottom end and my 9 to have better top end. Can't they read my mind!!!!!

Think you've got a good point Stabs but it seems to me the criticisms of your original locked topic were that you / others went overboard in slagging the product / manufacturer.

I'm all in support for personal reviews of gear which you've used... but which are objective (and not personal?!!)

Eg: Statements like this are too broad reaching and personal.

OK, so kiter77 had this problem / that problem with his Cabrinha gear breaking. I want to know that. (preferably with what the response from the manufacturer was too, assuming he contacted them in a civil manner with the aim of resolving stuff)

I don't want to see his 'attack' on Cabrinha - in my opinion, this is beyond the odd rhetorical / sarcastic remark!

Maybe if you had a near death experience due to a manufacturers cost saving ways you are'nt going to pussy around like some do gooder and not make people aware that a certain company needs to lift their act. Cabrinha have a bad reputation for quality control and need to lift their act. This has been ongoing for years. Personally I think it's a discrace given the cost you pay for a kite and quality/safety that's delivered. Am I going to write a solitary letter to Cabrinha? Yeah big deal sure, it will change overnight.
