Just strolled down to my local beach [}:)] only to find that the recent storms have pushed low water mark at beach 2 way out to about the point where our 'chic-on-a-stick' wind vein sits on the fishing groin.
That makes the rigging beach area off the end carpark over 50M wide.
Be great if it stays that way for summer.

But - on the downside if the changes do turn out to be permanent.
Some of all that sand build up has come from beach 3 at the offshore launch area. Here about 1/2M of sand has disappeared from between those once scattered rocks. No wonder we stubbed our toes & shredded our feet. Now there is almost wall-to-wall rocks; most of which must have been just below the old surface level.

Not a new phenomenon at all.
Some pics from around 1960's or so from memory, it's been a while since I researched this.
Thanks to the Navy and a oil company for our set up at Woods.

Some amazing changes since the late 60's and the changes continue.
Aaahhh, gone are the days when you could drive to beach 3 in the HQ station wagon and Windsurfers totally ruled Woodies.

Just looking at these pics again, how sweet was the offshore set up back then.
Even B2 would have been awesome....

Nice add on strongbow.
How interesting is all that.
Perhaps the wider beach I found today will be a permanent growth thing?
Seems the whole base area is just getting wider & wider over time.

Do you know what was out at the end of the groin? Is that an oil well?
I have been told it was built as a loading dock for beef bodies & meat products from a local abbatoir?
Have to have a chat next time I see you there.

Correct Phil, Wapet were trying to find oil but it was a failure.
The southern groyne was built by the navy and was going to be a major base, but they decided to move the location a little further to the south west.

Astonishing photos - nice find Strongbow.

Maybe the woodies crew can get in there with a D9 and restore it to "it's original glory" under the guise of a historical project.

Some people grow old but some of us just keep improving with age

Funny story about photos WOK. (funny now anyhow)
Every single puppet pic pre 1979 was reduced to ashes, photo by photo I believe, by the "housekeeper".
Music collection of 200+ LP vinyls from the Beatles right thru the Age of Aquarius also donated to a church jumble sale - somewhere?
MORAL of the STORY
NEVER leave home expecting to go back and pick up ANYTHING thats yours.

ps one bit was wrong there - it still isnt funny
