Asa surfer turned kiter just wondering if toeside to blind is easier to accomplish rather than switchfoot as I am finding it extemely frustrating to swichfoot. Is a mutant board better for an old surfer to change direction and ride toeside to blind or persivere with my twintip and learn to swich like you wake style kiter's seem to do so easily p.s have a Rebel 10 and Liquid force 132 Drop,a mate sugested I keep my harness a tad loose to allow it to swivell a little, to allow it to move to my side rather than abbs centre, when trying toeside to blind, I am only 65 kilos and natural on a surfboard....sugestions would be appreciated!

Hey rooey,
i have been a surfer,snowboarder and a skater for my whole life(im 34).
Trying to ride with my un-natural foot forward was something i thought i would never over come due to years of rideing goofie.
After about a month of eating sh#t,now it feels as natural both ways.
Actual can go upwind and jump better on my un-natural side for some reason?
Keep at it mate, thought id never jump that herdal, now i dont know what i was worried about.Time on the water is all it comes down to.
Good luck mate.

I surfed for 30 odd years riding natural , this is my 3rd season kiting and really only my first season getting into decent waves , but at the end of this season I'me finally getting the idea of riding switch on a TT- took off on a f***ing bomb a couple of weeks ago and survived the intense speed down the face- you have to lean a lot more into the wave riding switch and use the kite to help balance you.
i can ride toeside on a surfboard , but not in big waves yet- next season maybe . I'd say that riding toeside on a surfboard is maybe a bit easier than switch on a TT , but you have to adopt a wierd stance to stay upwind toeside, that is a bit uncomfortable at first. It probably depends on the individual and the board size-learn to do both and have the ability to do whats best for the situation.

yea, when I come to the end of my run,I feel better to turn like bottom turn and keep my momentum whilst concentrating and watching the kite, where as when I try to kinda stop to go switchfoot and redirect I bog down and look and feel like fully unco, unable to keep the kite powered and die in the water, or get slingshotted forwards and head plant the water when I manage to stay powerd up get so pissed with myself, doin it so smoothly in a dream the other nite, just wish I could make the transition smooth in reality

Hey Rooey,
like yourself I am a surfer turned pretty much completely into kiter(if you know how crapola Perth surf is then youll understand why)
When I 1st started kiting I dreaded that I would have to learn to ride goofy/switch, coz I suck at it on a surfboard.
Im now into my 3rd season and like lotofwind, I feel as comfy riding switch as I do natural foot. What tricks I can do, I do mainly natural foot tho, still not totally dialled in on my goofy side, need more time on the water.
Im not so concerned with learning to ride goofy on waves, coz I personally like backhand kitesurfing in waves(old fashioned I guess) Martin Vari makes a backhand snap behind a kite look so insane.
Anyway my 2 bobs...stick with it Rooey, itll come mate and youll be stoked when it does.

I think there is a whole bunch of guys going switch (including me trying it)

Felix's recent article is to blame for "tis" good sense...

Only had a few sessions now, but forcing myself only to ride switch down the line... most difficult for me is keeping speed through the first bottom turn...

Hey Rooey - stick with it - as the other guys say it will be as natural as anything until switch tricks are as natural as natural one's

Also from a long surfing background, I thought switch would be really tough. One bit of advice that I heard really early on that helped heaps was this: when riding natural ,make a mental note of everything and how it feels and where things are positioned. How does the pressure on your back leg feel, where is your head positioned how does your body twist - keep that front leg straight - try and put pressure on your back leg.

I tried this years ago playing pool left handed and it worked a treat.
Being able to ride switch in the surf on a TT is way easier than riding toe side especially early on and if the wind is light.

Hope to see you this weekend for a DW
