is this a misnomer or i just did something wrong?!?i was out on a 12-14kt. day on a contra 14 weighing in at 168lbs..as i was skimming along with a little bit half-depower on the cas strap it was fun till i stumbled as i landed from a short boost..since kite was in power zone i immediately pushed on the bar to depower to put the board back but to my amazement i still was able to skim back and forth even when the cas strap was was decoupledso i guess the question is if there is really such a thing as 100%depower

If there's surface of your kite exposed to the wind then it'll generate power; simple as that. By this statement, even when a kite is flagged out it will still generate a small amount of power as there is still wind drag on the kite.

100% depower is a marketing term. Some companies use a more realistic term like 90% depower.

that's what i have been telling my mate who doesn't kite but sails and since he's very knowledgeable about advances in kite designs thru visual and reading he insists total depower is as such and i keep on telling him "no such thing" if not handled well

tell him if he puts head to wind there is still power in the sail + its flapping. if a kite was to flap would it still sit in the sky?
