im just starting to try jumps unhooked. raileys, 360's etc. which feel awesome by the way :-)

but i do find that if i unhook THEN send the kite back by the time its at 12 its so oversheeted it doesnt produce any lift. i tried depowering the kite before unhooking so its not oversheeted but this only seems to help `a little.

so should i be unhooking a moment AFTER sending the kite back but before 'lift-off'? or am i doing something else wrong here ?

thanks

don't send the kite at all, leave it at 11 or 1, use your board speed and line tension to make the pop, you should'nt have to deliberately send it unless your trying to get very high unhooked. also try loading uop your rail as soon as you unhook. if your kite aint pulling you up out of the water then there's porobably something not set like oversheeted( the kite will open it's tips, ) basically i like it to sit just below where i normally ride, so i grab a handfull of depower just before unhooking such that when i unhook and look at the kite, it doesn't look like the tips are open att all, or just slightly
, but if the wind is light, you may want the kite to have a little more grunt. if you unhook and the tips are flaring though, you definately need to pull more depower prior to unhooking

Unhooked stuff lik raley's should be done with your kite at 45 or lower, especially if you do it off a wave. It will feel heaps better and look a hell of a lot more stylish. You need to learn how to pop properly. Try doing hooked in back rolls with the kite low to learn this.

i find that if i have the kite higher than 50, raileys, s-bends etc are heaps harder, and look gay
sure you got more time you land..... but if you do get it right, you either just hang there lookin like a dangler, or if you happen to roll a bit during the railey or are doin an s-bend, you just keep on rotating and land backwards or if your lucky maybe get a double in....

keep it at 50-60 on your first trys to get the motion.... then bring it down to 45 for some stylin

and get some boots [}:)]

thanks guys. other than richrello of course?

ive been trying unhooked on butter so thats prob why ive been tending to put the kite too high.

increase pop must be the answer.

and yeah booties may help. never tried it kiting but have wakeboarded. im travelling at the moment and boots are just too damn heavy.

mmm. 18-23knts this arvo (apparently!). riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip.

another thing i worked out today..... the bigger the kite... the higher your gonna need the angle.... my usual 12m sits around 45.... 16 i was using today was at 60-65..... and then the 9m the other day was LOW...

and very true bout boots... when you get home, get some cos they are worth it!! Good luck dude, wish we had butter here :(

cuz everyone needs boots to do unhooked moves...

it makes them look like wakeboarders and thats about it...

Best 2 kiteboarders in the world Ruben and Aaron both where foot straps and they seem to manage quite well.

nothing wrong with bindings tho, just don't think you have to have them to be able to do good tricks. DO what you feel most comfortable doing, i bet thats what aaron and ruben do too.

they ride pkra remember, its not functional to ride bindings in pkra comps. Out of comps your riding isn't restricted by rules so your can ride diferent. Way harder and much more solid landings are possible on bindings.
But yeah do whats comfortable.

its funny all the ruben and aaron videos don't show them riding bindings either and they are doing pretty dam hard landings.

i don't agree harder landings are possible with bindings but thats just my opinion.

i don't want to turn this into a petty debate so lets just leave it at that and say ride what ya want to ride cuz theirs no point trying to do tricks on gear that you feel uncomfortable with. this aint gonna turn into another arguement like the BOW one i hope.

thanks for all the input. i wouldnt mind trying boots but i do like to be able to move my feet in the straps. i think 'with boots' may put more grief into your knees ?

but pleased to report succesful powered raileys (most without eating it afterwards) and also a couple of 360's all unhooked.

the only way is up.

chuffed

Well last night i emailed Ruben and got a msg back by this morning, impressive.

Hi dude, thanks for leaving a message on my website...
So yeah about bindings my opinion is that they suck and are bad for injurys and
stuff, you'll have way more presure on you knees so that's f!cked up.
And it's kiting different you'll lose some board control because the footpads
are ticker...just find some good straps and footpads and it will be better.

Thanks men enjoy, ow btw, where you from in Oz i'm going there for 1,5 month
from the 8 of january till the 20 of february, to Perth though. So maybe see
you around.

Take care...Adrenaline Driven.
