What are you trying to do?

This will give you a basic understanding on how to unhook and get airbourne.

But we really need more info on your riding.
Flat water or choppy?
What tricks can you actually do?

Also wakestyle and freestyle are two different riding styles, read up on both.
As for tuning depower your kite all the way, unhook, see how it feels and adjust until you are comfortable.

buy a C kite

C kites are the preferred freestyle kite and offer a better unhooking feel but are of no real advantage to a newbie who is only starting to unhook.
Even in the PKRA there a few c kite riders.

Obviously Dre and Keahi unhook just fine on Switchies so it's possible.

I used to ride switchies then got C4s and I find them both easier to unhook on and more responsive when unhooked. Also, the wind range in which I'm able to unhook on the C4s is much wider than for the switchies.

I'm an intermediate hack and I don't think you need to be a pro to appreciate the unhooking advantages of a C kite.

Make sure the kite is tuned correctly. If my kite is overpowered it folds in on itself.

I play around with the depower until I can complete 50m runs unhooked. Remember to rail hard.

I suggest that you should try not to keep riding on the same edge, change direction and head slightly downwind instead of keeping the same edge as hooked in. You will feel a huge different in how much the bar pulls. When you feel ready load and pop.
