The five knot rule has been in place since the sixties but parks and marine safty vic would like to police this more due to higher number of water users and accidents that have happend but they have area's now which kiteboarding can be done and the five knot rule does not apply but this is only when there are no other water users in the area ie if your in the kiteboard zone and a swimmer enters the water then the five knot rule comes into play stupid i know but most of the time when its windy enough to kite most other water users are not there thats way it hasn't really been a problem in the past. but due to the high number of kiteboarder's now the need to start educating people in safty and law of the water. Most of all it comes down to common sense but there is still a number of people that think they own the water and they come first which will soon learn that we pretty much come last and if you dont obey these rules then your either going to get a ticket or ruin it for everyone else. but remember there not out there just to raise rvenue its about keeping the public safe.
