If you are going in the next two months, definitely bring your gear. Kiting is along the south east coast (the popular spot is Mui Ne).
The wind is strong but mui Ne isn't a great spot to ride ( I thought). Its windy, but pretty gust and the water is nothing spectacular...just a bunch of chop. However, stay in Mui Ne and rent a moped / scooter and ride around to the back beaches to the east / north east. It starts with Hom Ron Beach (i.e. cemetary). There is some fantastic beach break that can get pretty big, especially if its been blowing for a few days straight. Also, the ride between the waves is nice and there are hardly any people that head out that way. You have 10 km of beach all to yourself. There are pleanty of places to stay, just to a search for Mui Ne...I think muinebeach.net is a site, something like that anyway. If its blowing, a 12 or smaller is the ticket. i found that if it was light, you might as well be chasing some tail, or something like that.

Vietnam gets great wind 15-30knots from november to march. Sometime it can be too windy +30knots. A mate just came back from a trip in mui ne over x-mas, and said the season hadn't been too good, but still got out 6 of the 8 days, . He said there is now 7 kite schools (2 last year) but it is a big beach, just watch out for the crazy russians......

Yeah, Wind over Chrissy wasn't worth a ****. It started blowing really hard New Years Eve and then it died out for a day the following week, but otherwise it was goin off.
If you do an internet search, fullmoon windsurfing / kitesurfing, you'll come to the fullmoon beach resort wepage. They track the wind everyday and you can see that stats for the past 5 years.

I had two weeks at Mui Ne at the end of November. Whicked spot. Cheap to eat. Bit of a beach break, but once you get past it there is loads of room to play. Take glasses as the salt water is, can I say salty!! Real irritating for the eyes!! I mostly kited on my 11 Sonic. Could have had a smaller kite. Many of the locals are out on 6m to 8m kites. Rented a scooter for a week and did several day trips north. The first beach is the best, almost on shore wind (go there when it is off shore at Mui Ne) and great flat water between big waves to play in. Check out Leo at Sik Kite centre for local knollage and/or lessons. Great guy. Can stay there for US$25 a night for a double room with AC. Wi Fi on the beach. Check www.windguru,com archives for past wind.
Have fun!!
