You're kidding right Justoon?

WA won all divisions in the Nationals except juniors.

In the opens WA took 4 out of the top 5 spots . Took 1 and 2 in the Ladies and the Masters took 4 out of the top 5 spots.

The top riders from WA in the opens were the Rat, Daniel Anderson, Ryland Blakeny and Carl Bevilaqua, unfortunately Jake Gordon was injured and so couldn't participate because he was a favourite to be in the top three for sure, would have made it 5 from 5.

Then there was Niall and Carl who smashed the waves in the opens and also Mike Bergman who also shredded and won the waves for the masters.

W.A. had the top riders at this years Nats no question. Just because you dont see the hot riders doesn't mean they aren't out there.

1. ****in attitude. When your lot were over here, all you heard was "woah man that was fully sick", "that was grouse", "yo bro whats goin down with da g", "that was ****, it wasnt even unhooked", "woah dude that guy is a kook" and "man board offs are gay". Having said that, there were heaps of top guys and girls that didnt have that attitude...those that just wanted to do a comp, meet people and enjoy the ride.
Sure wakestyle may be the future but why bring an attitude to a sport that doesnt need it. Besides which, most people who bag board-offs are the ones that cant do them anyway.
The sport is still young and needs to progress but doesnt need the attitude.

2. There are heaps of kiters in WA that didnt enter nationals just as there were those who didnt from the eastern states.

3. What did you rank??

4. Not sure if this is entirely correct but I dont think Dan could unhook when overseas on the tour cause he injured his shoulder prior to leaving. He came 30th...for the most part hooked in. Wait till next year!

Those riders deserved their places. Someone who lands tricks are going to score points. Those who dont will not.

Y'know it's funny Justoon,

You guys are all, "Unhooked this" and "hooked in is gay" n stuff. For those of us that have been kiting for more than 10 minutes we remember when Lou, Fadi, Chuck, Flash and Elliot were the top dogs and the Maui crew were all like.....

"If you're not riding in bindings you're gay
If you are not riding 2 line you're gay
If you're not wearing long pants you're gay
Then it was, if you are wearing long pants you're gay
Then board offs were gay
and now hooked in is gay".

It's funny to see all the top rider no longer wearing long pants, they no longer wear bindings, they also no longer fly 2 line kites.

It's also funny that you seem to be a victim of the latest fad. Unhooked riding hasn't progressed for nearly a year, it's already peaked and you may even find that next year unhooking will be gay!

Surfs in dude. Wave riding and smacking fat lips and getting tubed. I notice you live in Tannum Sands, that sucks, no surf, I guess you will all have to remain in the fashion time warp until something else comes along after the surf fad. When you will be able to be cool again.

Most W.A. riders ride in waves and don't let magazines or kite companies tell em what's cool and what's not, they just ride because riding is cool no matter what style it is, wake, hooked, unhooked, surf, wake skate and skim, flat water and waves, are all cool. And no one over here puts sh%t on you if you don't ride the same as them.

The nationals just proved that East coast riders cant kite in more than 25 knots! Say what you will, the results are in concrete.

I find this topic pretty amusing in general. I was having this same conversation at the beach yesterday with some learners/regulars. We all agreed there are different styles of kiting and should all appreciate each others view and competency.
I notice the latest 'fad' for all the hotshots is too wear a tshirt (not a rashie) with a whole ripped in it for the spreader hook. Hilarious to me but serious to others so we accept it! Trying to hide the fact u need a harness??
Anyhow as far as comps go, imo they should be clearly defined in what the judges are looking for. Zeb would have been like afish out of water doing old school stuff as he is pure wakestyle (and bloody good from what I can tell).
To the original question, I think there are top riders EVERYWHERE but some just don't do comps. To me the law of wind averages would have to tell me that WA would have more practiced and good riders than anywhere else - but that's just a guess.
It's funny here to as all the hype with kiters who have been doing it for a couple or more seasons are saying unhooked is the way to go but they aren't even riding powered up hooked in yet so I think they are jumping the gun a bit. In saying that, I'm only an intermediate level kiter myself but would like to do more unhooked stuff just to see what all the fuss is about.

Maybe the Tannum comp will be more wakestyle oriented for you?

LOL's Justoon!!!

You have to be kidding, but I guess since you weren't there all you have to go on is the stories you have been told.
I was one of the judges, and saw every heat, the riding standard of WA kiters is way up there and the results speak for themselves.
So disappointed that Jake Gordon was injured.

It was the national titles, kiters had to demonstrate a wide range of skills, and be able to do it in a wide arange of winds, by choosing the right gear for the job and conditions. Everything had to be landing cleanly, judging was tough on landings, but it was the same for everyone.
Unhooked style is cool if it is done with power, style and technicality, but I never want to see another gay railey!!! Hooked in is also cool, especially some of the stuff Dan Anderson did and Rich Stennings, grabbed double back kite loops, etc.

Well Justin I don't know whats up with you today, but you seriously need a reality check.
You have an opinion and you are entitled to it, please accept that its just like an a-hole, everyone has one.
Making sweeping statements like you have reflects more about you than it does about me or any of the riders you are dissing.
Stating that the double, grabbed backloop, with a kiteloop trademark move that Rich Stenning does is just a simple no brainer transition simply shows how out of touch you are with real kiteboarding.
What are you saying about Zebb, its pretty hard to understand mate????

How can you say no-one surfed waves at the Nats, you weren't there?
When was the last time you kited in waves anyway?
How can anyone truly surf waves with a kite, at best its a combination of two things, common sense would tell us that this is something new, and a new style of riding waves will evolve, probably a powered version and a less powered version, but surfing it isn't thats for sure. Kitesurfing is the name of that part of our sport.

Why do you think it is important to be "respected" by a tiny minority of kiters who mainly sit around passing judgement on others riding styles, as if they are the self appointed judge and jury (or whiners and whingers) of everything kiteboarding related?

I read something very cool the other day, something you and a lot of people need to wake up to.
"What you think of me is none of my business"

I'd rather be happy, and kite for enjoyement, not the approval of the bench full of monkey judges on the beach.

I had a great time up there last year, although you were much friendlier bunch before you all got so famous and serious.
I was invited as a representative of AKSA, I am no longer in that role, so thats fair enough that you invite someone else or simply use your own State Association reps, have fun, I hope you get good winds like last year.

Its all about fun Justin, not trying to live up to the opinions of others.

The best riders DO ride bindings, some never stopped. None ride shackled to a chicken loop like you. You somehow failed to notice that the really hard hooked in moves you speak of (double back kiteloop is a transition where the kite isn't re directed) were used by someone like Zebb inside without him even having to practice. Why should someone be able to rate in a nationals with out even having to have ever done the stuff they are doing in a heat - doesn't seem like a farce to you????

Anyway, if waves are the future how come no one could surf them at the nationals. just heaps of people strapped in tight to their kite and board riding back and forward - no skill again.

i dont think you know how stupid you look.

Anyway for sure tannum comp will have a better riding level if there's wind. You should come and check it out. Kitepower i notice your not invited this year??? might have something to do with your stupid views above?? (they are the last thing anyone needs)

you should really stop reading your kite mags in the toilet the pages are getting stuck together ,
Maybe try kitesurfing rather than dissing people.
I bet you are the kind of person that buys a kite depending on what colour it is.[}:)]

Im sick of all this attitude bull**** its just kiting do what you to do nobodys going to stop you. If the judging was stuffed then it was stuffed for everyone. The rules and guide lines were posted for everyone to discuss way before they were decided but everybody was too lazy to bother adding their own opinion. As far as im concerned we should be praising the few people that put all the work into it not bagging what was wrong with it.

Nice one Justoon!! You make some pretty huge generalisations and big opinions on heresay, you obviously weren't there were you?!

A week before the comp in Gero, most of the eastern crew and a lot of locals were seshing at Woodies. It was awesome to chill at the beach watching the countries best going hard, pulling super tricky-tricks, unhooked, handle-passing all over the place. Your idol Zebb was stomping super styley double-S to blind and other cool stuff. You'd have been stoked- all unhooked, powerful and therefore very un-gay riding. Problem was that most of these tricks resulted in splash-down, kite in the water etc... But thats cool, you need to crash to learn the hard stuff, it keeps the sport progressing.

Its easy to try the hard stuff with no time-limits or pressure, and its no problem if you only pull 1 in 3 attempts when you're free riding.

Unfortunately the comp format didn't allow for good attempts, hell even I could have won it if the winner is the guy attempting the hardest, craziest move but not landing it.

All the competitors were made aware of the judging criteria before the first day of the comp, it was run and judged exceptionally well, the bestriders made it through by stomping good solid tricks- hooked or unhooked.

Maybe you can do us a favour next year, take your tongue out of Zebbs ass and come show Australia and the 'untalented' WA crew how its done.

Please dont confuse this goon with the devilfish as there is only one..Lets face it the nationals results speak for themselves, WA riders rules. We do have better winds than anywhere else in OZ, but the real reason why we rule is simply down to the fact that WA people are more naturally talented than the rest of OZ.

Look at me pulling kiteloops after 2 weeks of riding, book me into the nationals next year, ill be doing it for WA.. Im actually working on a kiteloop to railey boardoff from land in to water. I think it's going to look stylee.

Talking of sylee, whether your hooked in or unhooked most importantly the trick has to look smooth and stylish. I know id much rather see smooth and sylish hooked as opposed ugly mongo unhooked riding. On that note thats where Dan Anderson rules, awesome style and huge airs, thats the sort of riding thats attracts the general publis and get potential sponsers interested.

Hey justoon is your mum unhooked?

The SS team are pushing the wakestyle progression so they must be high on your idol list and I hear some drink their own pee! Needless to say, you might want to start drinking up.

great way to advertise a comp your helping to organize, But this style of intimidation doesn't work on W.A riders. prove to W.A riders why they should enter your comp and why it's worth their troubleheading to tannum.

spewin... i was wondering what happened (thanks for letting us know laurie)...

man it sounds like this dude is going to be trying all his unhooked moves without any teeth... i can't even read his posts and i'm getting annoyed with the narrowminded attitude.

it's interesting that some of the dudes who are the most critical of the 'gay' moves can't actually do them... what's more lame than seeing 'the best in oz' travel 4000 kms to hang a few railies?? oh i know... getting fed the excuse that the rules restricted their riding.

it was interesting to see that although they suffered losses early on, zebb and rich pulled their s**t together and started ripping, and got good results for themselves. that's what comps are about, it's about competing, not just having a chilled out session and then at the end of the day everyone saying 'cool dude you were ripping out there, here's a trophy'.

if you are good enough at your style, then you should be able to win based on the system that was used at the Nats. that's the good part about it. furthermore, the scoring sheets etc were published for soo long before, and those people who actually managed to be a little bit organised, checked out what they were good at and how they could maximise the points they could score based on the rules of the comp.

oh, and the rat, who won the mens division... he was doing all the latest unhooked moves, it's just that he was doing it about 3 times higher, and fully lit up (in over 25kn) and landing with style. that's why he won!!

i'm glad the sport is in the hands of people who respect all styles of riding, not just the latest fad because it's cool. thank god it's not in the hands of the goat smoking winner who started this thread.
