i want to waterproof the front of my shin where I took a gash out of it a few weeks ago. I have tried the large waterproof plastic film/bandaid flimsy thing but unless I shave a good section of my hairy leg it 'aint gonna work. Good chance it will turn into an ulcer if it does get wet.

Any experiences ?? Should I just bite the bullet and stay out for another week even though the wind will be up this weekend?

Hey Windang,

I had a nasty cut on the sole of my foot from stepping on a sharp rock. I used the "Liquid Bandaid" stuff you can get from any chemist or some supermarkets.

Depending on how big it is. My cut was about 2.5 cms long. and one applicator was enuff to cover it(you get 5 in a pack).

Give it a shot, it is 100% waterproof. Make sure you scrub the area with dettol or something so no nasties get sealed in.

It is kinda like a glue. Good stuff!

Hope this helps. All the best

Liquid BandAid works on all small cuts etc. If you get a deeper cut use super glue. Its the same as liquid Bandaid just not in spray form. Doctors use it all the time. It will slowly disolve as the cut heals.

thanks for the advice

i decided it was tooo big for liquid bandaid and I am letting it heal. It is probably for the best (thats what I keep telling myself as I have missed the best 3 weeks of the season). It has already become infected once after I could not wait to try my new board.

as for super glue ... well ... i'll leave that up to someone else to try just in case you are pulling my leg.

Check out paw-paw ointment (as in the plant, not the dog).

I ripped the top of my big toe on a reef days before a trip to Cocos. Took heaps of liquid bandaid, waterproof dressings etc .. none seemed to do the job good enough .. they leaked/didn't stay on.

Jez put me onto the paw-paw ointment and it's wicked! Not only is it water resistent (bit like vaseline), but it's speeds the healing as well.

Enjoy .. Lozza

Hey Windang,

My Dad used to be a wicked surfer in his younger years. He once told me he had to punch a few sharks in the nose to get the good waves. He gave me a few pointers, when I was growing up regarding toughening up.

1) Eat gravel sandwiches - Gives Extra Iron
2) The more spit you can put in your diving mask the better it cleans
3) The wetty warmer in winter, really keeps you warm in 14 degree waters
4) Apple Sauce works on everything ( Even Chocolate Cake)

Maybe you could try my dads ideas, or even ask your own. -

To answer your question use tip no 4. -

Carry Super Glue where ever you go...used by soldiers in Vietnam, but don't friggen put it in your eyes. Superglue has a place in every travlers aid kit.

looks like i will have to send a barrell of apples over to your house kyteryder - thanks for those tips. Is this the same dad that decided to ride a goat boat in the early 90's?
