Just recently started to ride waves on a smallish directional board and loving it.
Coming from a wave twin tip Airush Hammer, the ride has always been soft under foot and easy on the old knees in onshore choppy conditions.
Question:
I find when in choppy water on my directional the chop seems to hit pretty hard under the board, inturn a bit harder ride than I’m use to.
Also seem to land jumps a lot flatter as well. A few times I’ve expect the board to broken after a few flat landings. Luck must be on my side at the moment.
Other than to pounding in very choppy condition the board is a smooth ride.
Is this normal for a directional or is it technique?
Yeah, when I edge harder it reduces the pounding some what but where I kite I don’t have to crank back up wind very often due to the up wind ability of the board, wind direction and current.
I find myself riding the board flatter than I would on a TT most of the time.
Thinking of buying a 6’ 2” surf board as well! Which brand / model of boards gives the softest ride?

imo what you are describing relates more to where your footstraps are positioned....try your board strapless and you would probably find that until you are on a wave your whole stance moves further forward on the board.....
